The glittery enthusiasm of the 'Fandom High' banner strung across the wall was a little unexpected, but at least it confirmed Vider was where she was supposed to be, even if no one else appeared to be here yet. That part wasn't surprising, considering how early her flight had gotten in, but she seemed to be dealing with the earliness of the hour remarkably well. It might have had something to do with the fact that she was getting used to never getting quite enough sleep any more.

One of the trainers at the Hangadrottin War College had shoved a wad of unfamiliar money into her hand this morning, 'for the journey,' like she was going to some foreign country and not just the East coast. Still, she wasn't going to turn down money so she'd taken it without complaint and used some of it to buy a tea and pastry for breakfast, and once she picked out a seat by the wall where she could prop her spear case and sword up, she settled in to eat, picking the pastry apart into little shreds before putting them in her mouth.

So far this boarding school thing didn't seem so bad, although she was reserving final judgment until she'd actually seen the school.

"I don't know who Odin is," Alana said patiently. "Oh, gosh, is this some Earth thing? Am I going to sound dumb until I pick it up?"

"'Some Earth thing?'" Vider repeated. "I--what's the alternative? Some not Earth thing? How can you not know who the father of the gods is?"

"Because that's not my religion?" Alana said, crinkling her nose at Vider. "Look, I'm not trying to offend you or anything, it sounds really interesting, it's just -- not the god I believe in. As much as I believe in any god, anyhow, which is not all that much."

She had a feeling she might be making it worse, but she couldn't stop talking.

"...oh," Vider said. "Oh, are you a Biblist?" She didn't know much about other religions. It seemed weird to believe in something you couldn't see when the gods were right there.

Alana shook her head. "I'm from Landfall. We don't have that there either, I don't think."

Vider should apologize to Isabelle, here was the one who was probably from some sort of isolated commune. Also possibly a cult. "What do you have in Landfall?"

"It's the main planet in the Coalition," Alana said, in a tone that suggested everyone should know which coalition. "We have everything, just not the same Church as you do on Earth."

"Planet, right," Vider said, clearly humoring her. "Of course it is."

"No, it's --" Alana sighed hugely and popped her gum. This conversation was making her tired.

"Look, I'm gonna go get some coffee," she said, gesturing to the coffee stand. "Do you want anything?"

"No, I'm good," Vider said, holding up her cup to indicate she had tea. She wasn't really familiar with coffee yet. "Look, I'm sure we'll get it all sorted out at the school." Once Alana met some more people and realized they also had no idea what she was talking about.

Of course, Vider had a similar fate ahead of her, so...

"Bet we will," Alana said. You know. Once Vider had taken a class on interplanetary politics or whatever it was that she needed. "See you around."
