The glittery enthusiasm of the 'Fandom High' banner strung across the wall was a little unexpected, but at least it confirmed Vider was where she was supposed to be, even if no one else appeared to be here yet. That part wasn't surprising, considering how early her flight had gotten in, but she seemed to be dealing with the earliness of the hour remarkably well. It might have had something to do with the fact that she was getting used to never getting quite enough sleep any more.

One of the trainers at the Hangadrottin War College had shoved a wad of unfamiliar money into her hand this morning, 'for the journey,' like she was going to some foreign country and not just the East coast. Still, she wasn't going to turn down money so she'd taken it without complaint and used some of it to buy a tea and pastry for breakfast, and once she picked out a seat by the wall where she could prop her spear case and sword up, she settled in to eat, picking the pastry apart into little shreds before putting them in her mouth.

So far this boarding school thing didn't seem so bad, although she was reserving final judgment until she'd actually seen the school.

Oh, he had a hamster! That explained a few things. Vider's previous experiences with small rodents had mostly involved feeding them to snakes, though, nooooot that she was about to tell her new teacher that. "I am," she confirmed. "New. I don't know if I'm excited yet. I'm Vider Bearskin. Do you teach?"

"I do!" Minsc said happily. "Sometimes buttkicking, sometimes adventuring, and this time, magical creatures! I know a lot about those, you know, Vider. Boo here happens to be one, even!"

...it was a hamster. A magical hamster? Weirder things had happened. "Oh, magical creatures! I'm in your class." She thought it was just biology class with a weird name, though, but then, where she was from biology class included elf anatomy.

"You are?" Minsc seemed genuinely surprised and quite please. "Excellent! I can feel, this will be a great class already! I would ask you what magical creature you might be most interested to care for, Lady Vider, but then what will I ask you on our first lesson?"

"And if I told you now, it would spoil the surprise for class," Vider responded. "You'll just have to wonder, sir."

"Very well, then!" said Minsc exuberantly. "I shall wait and wonder with anticipation! I hope it is a good one, Lady Vider, I would hate to be disappointed! There are maaaany, many awesome magical creatures out there, but there are some..."

He twisted his expression into one not so impressed.

"Not so much."

Like stinking dirty gnolls.

Were those related to trolls? Vider wanted nothing to do with trolls, thank you very much. "I couldn't agree more," she said.

Minsc nodded, pleased to know he already had such a bright student. "Very good then! I have a feeling that you and I will get on swimmingly, Lady Vider! Don't you agree, Boo?"

Still, Boo seemed to withhold comment.

In fact, Boo looked like he might have fallen asleep.
