The glittery enthusiasm of the 'Fandom High' banner strung across the wall was a little unexpected, but at least it confirmed Vider was where she was supposed to be, even if no one else appeared to be here yet. That part wasn't surprising, considering how early her flight had gotten in, but she seemed to be dealing with the earliness of the hour remarkably well. It might have had something to do with the fact that she was getting used to never getting quite enough sleep any more.

One of the trainers at the Hangadrottin War College had shoved a wad of unfamiliar money into her hand this morning, 'for the journey,' like she was going to some foreign country and not just the East coast. Still, she wasn't going to turn down money so she'd taken it without complaint and used some of it to buy a tea and pastry for breakfast, and once she picked out a seat by the wall where she could prop her spear case and sword up, she settled in to eat, picking the pastry apart into little shreds before putting them in her mouth.

So far this boarding school thing didn't seem so bad, although she was reserving final judgment until she'd actually seen the school.

Yeah Isaac had no idea what he was talking about. "I'd like to think I would have heard about that."

"Did you live on a commune without TV?"

"Well technically I'm homeless." Bet you felt bad now, didn't you? "But I have been around a TV recently and last I checked no American city had been destroyed by any things."

"Yeah they did. It did," he corrected. "I watched it on TV. Everyone watched it on TV."

Except the people who died in it. Whomp whomp whomp.

"Obviously not everybody did." Because he had no idea what you were talking about.

"Seriously?" Stop being confusing!

"Why would I lie about that?" he asked.

"I dunno, why would I?" Because of reasons, Raleigh.

"I never said I thought you were lying."

"Good. Because I'm not." Yes, thank you, Raleigh. "It was seriously all over the news this month. You can't go anywhere without someone talking about it."

Mostly because of that goop the thing leaked everywhere.

"I'm still not entirely sure what destroyed the city." Yes, please explain this to him Raleigh.

UGH.

"Okay, it's hard to explain if you didn't actually see it," Raleigh said. Right about now would have been awesome to have a smartphone. Mom. "So, it was this big monster. Thing."

"Godzilla. It was like Godzilla."

If Isaac couldn't hear Raleigh's heartbeat telling him the truth there was no way he'd believe this. But as it was...

"Something like Godzilla destroyed San Francisco." Okaaaaaaay. "Is it dead now?"

"Yeah. They bombed it a lot." Uuuunderstaaaaatemeeeeeeeent. "So, apparently part of northern California is all Chernobyl now."

"That's insane," he said. "Like, seriously insane. No wonder you came here."

Away from the nuclear fallout.

And thank god Beacon Hills was safe from that. For now. OH GOD, THE NEMETON SUMMONED THE KAIJU.

"Seriously."

And all he had to show for it were some ridiculous sweaters.

He did dress like a fashionable hobo.

"I should tell you I don't think I'll be the only person who hasn't heard about the Godzilla thing."

"What?" EXPLAIN THIS MADNESS, ISAAC.

"Um." Was it really his place to explain this? He cleared his throat. "Are you open to the idea of different universes?"

"Well, I watched a week of a giant monster destroying the west coast, so... yeah?"

"I think you might be from a different universe than me," Isaac said. "I'm told it's more common than you might think."

"...right." RALEIGH, SUSPEND THAT DISBELIEF.

"That's not a very open-minded response."

"I'm trying!"
