They were back out on the lawn today - the weather and the past few days being what they were. Ender had set up a parasol, though, for anyone who wanted to escape the sunlight and sit in the shade.

"I've been catching up on radio," he said. "For anyone who got caught in last weekend's mess: I'm sorry. I know that doesn't mean much coming from me, but it warrants saying."

He settled down on the grass. "I'm not giving you any particular question to chew on this week," he said. "This weekend sounds like it's been a staggering exercise in denying consent; if you want to talk about that and your experiences, the floor is open. If you don't want to, I understand."

"I also realize not all of you might have gotten caught up in this," he added. "Talk about staying indoors and commiserating, talk about leaving the island, talk about not caring very much. Talk about something that mattered to you last week, even--" he glanced towards Cade, "... if it was just what you had for dinner. The floor is open."

How was your weekend?

"Yeah, I dunno," Sparkle stated, shrugging his shoulders. "I didn't notice me doing anything especially weird? I mean, weird for me."

Weird for Sparkle would have essentially boiled down to 'kissing girls.' It wasn't a long list.

"Actually, work was pretty boring, both on Friday and Sunday. But that's not really anything new, either."

"I met some of the fangirls that passed through our town on Thursday," Ender offered. "But I was gone for several days because of my partner's birthday, so I haven't experienced any of this myself, either. Sorry," he added, "that work was boring."

"Eh, I'll get over it," Sparkle replied. "I mean, there are worse fates than spending another fucked-up Fandom Island weekend not noticing anything weird. And my little sib paid me a visit yesterday, so that wasn't too bad, anyhow."

It broke up the tedium a bit.

"Good conversation?" Ender guessed.

"Didn't suck," Sparkle agreed, shrugging. "He hasn't seen Baltimore yet, so I'm gonna show him the sights. Maybe with less getting in shit than my usual. Because I'm considerate."

Yes. That was why.

"I noticed that something strange was going on so I mostly just kept to myself." It had worked, he'd gotten through unscathed. "Hope that happens each time this place decides to get all cute."

"Some of these things are easier to avoid than others," Ender said. "Sometimes they sweep you out of bed or change you where you stand."

"I went into the Perk without a shirt on and made out with the barista," Cade said, "but that could happen pretty much any weekend."

"I'm sure," Ender said dryly. "Was there anything else you noticed?"

"I had a weird accent and a bunch of my tattoos disappeared," Cade said. "I was all cleaned up."

"That must've been a strange experience," Ender said.

"It wasn't me," Cade said. "It was a nice-ified version of me. Ugh."

"It cost you some things you define yourself by," Ender said. "'Not being nice' being one of them?"

"Pirate," Cade said. "'Nice' isn't really one of our descriptors."

"So being made 'nice'...?"

"Wasn't my favorite," Cade understated.

Ender nodded, fairly sure he wasn't going to get more out of Cade in front of the class.

"By the way, I spoke to you-know-who," he said instead. "He says to make sure your break week stays free."

Cade'd know what that meant.

Cade's eyes lit up just for a second before his protective layer of "whatever" came back down.

"Okay," he said laconically. "If I remember."

"Get a calendar," Ender snarked back.

He'd caught that look.

Who probably didn't notice much was off last weekend.

Yeah, what was up with that? Sparkle had heard the radio and all, but nothing especially weird had really touched him, personally.

Or maybe it had, and he just hadn't noticed? That was going to bug him, now.

Ender's packing up and available for conversation after class.
