Political Campaigning (Thursday, February 16, 4th period)

"Today we talk more about developing the message," Josh said, "which you might remember we talked about way back during the third week of classes." He looked around the room. "With the scary message grids and that whole thing?"

He smiled. "Today, I want you to take the specifics of what you have learned about your condidate--his three big accomplishments, which are conveniently enough, due today--" he pointed at his inbox,"--and see if they fit in with what you had thought of as effective message. If not, decide if the message needs to change, or if you need to find examples that better reflect the image you want to project for the candidate."

He pointed at random. "Rory, how many days until the election?"

"258," Rory said, consulting her datebook.

"At least out guy hasn't shot anyone. ...I think." Jake said with a sigh.

"It's too late to jump ship to another campaign I take it?"

"Damnit."

"Competent. Just a big mouth, and possibly corrupt. And not exactly sympathetic. Why can't we just sell breakfast cereal?" Parker sighed. "Okay. The compensation for teachers on the reservations: that's both education-oriented, and offsets his prejudicial background. That's *one.*"

Rory waited for Alanna as she booted up her laptop.

Alanna sat down with Rory, her bag smaller than usual.

"Yo," Rory said, smiling. "Brought my laptop this time, and I pulled up some stuff on Morrison. So far his biggest accomplishments seem to be that he was selected in 2003 by the Democratic Leadership Council as one of 100 New Democrats to Watch, he was one of 10 public officials chosen by the national group for closer attention, and he's the top fundraiser among the four Democrats."

Alanna nodded and glanced over Rory's shoulder. "That all sounds good, but to 'regular voters' care about it? Or is sounding good enough to um, sound good?"

Re: Morrison: Rory & Alanna

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
"I think the average voter would care about that," Rory nodded. "It says stuff about his character, right?"

Re: Morrison: Rory & Alanna

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
"And other people voted for him, which is always a big thing." Alanna nodded. "Do we have to convince the other party to vote for him to?"

Re: Morrison: Rory & Alanna

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
"See, I don't think we can," Rory said. "I think we can just get people who are undecided and those within our party."

Elizabeth opened up her laptop, and spread her notes across the table.

There also might be a map of England under them. But let's all ignore that.

"Hey," Angel said as he took a chair by her.

"Hey. How's it going?"

Re: Tester: Logan, Elizabeth & Angel

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"For me? Pretty good," Angel said. "Just spent the morning trying to comfort my roommate. Um, in a platonic sense."

Re: Tester: Logan, Elizabeth & Angel

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"How's he doing?" Elizabeth asked sympathetically. "I'm planning to try and catch up with him later."

Re: Tester: Logan, Elizabeth & Angel

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Think he's still in shock," Angel said. "I did what I could with sugar and alcohol but..." he shrugged.

Re: Tester: Logan, Elizabeth & Angel

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Elizabeth nodded thoughtfully. "It's completely understandable," she said, sighing. "A complete break to another galaxy is difficult. I mean," she added quickly. "I imagine it would be."

Re: Tester: Logan, Elizabeth & Angel

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Angel nodded. "It's not easy. Especially when it's not something that either of you did. One thing to fight and break up. Another because you had to."

Not that he was speaking bitterly from experience here or anything.

"Exactly. It's going to be weird without her."

"I can't imagine it," Angel said. "It's got to be a billion times worse for John."

Re: Tester: Logan, Elizabeth & Angel

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. We're just gonna have to be good friends and try and keep his mind off it as much as possible. Stop him from dwelling."

Re: Tester: Logan, Elizabeth & Angel

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"See that's where I thought the alcohol would come in handy."

Re: Tester: Logan, Elizabeth & Angel

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Elizabeth grinned. "I'm sure it did. But we might have to try for a more long term solution there, and I'm sure his liver will thank us for it."

"Tomorrow's probably going to suck," Angel said. "Not that I know if he and Aeryn were going to the dance."
