Hitting Things 101- Tuesday- 4th period

Jaina's first class met in the Danger Shop, where she was standing in front of a line of training dummies. Gee, wonder what you were doing today.

"This is Hitting Things 101," Jaina began, and truth be told, she just liked saying that. "If you're wondering what you're going to be doing in here, you didn't read the class title too well. This is a class where you're going to have different opportunities to beat things up in a safe environment. Some of you will probably be using this for some sort of training, and that's totally fine. Some of you will just be wanting catharsis. That's fine, too. You'll be able to do things more or less at your own pace here, so no one has to worry about what level of fighting they're at.

"Now since this is our first class, I just want you all to tell me who you are and where you're from, and then you can pick a dummy and hit it. And if you don't know how to throw a proper punch, please ask me or someone else for help because I'm not sending anyone to the clinic with a broken hand on day one."

"Hey, my name is Zee and I'm not from around here," Zee said, trying not to mention 'Ephemera' or Tryadnea, because Sholeh had already mentioned being from those places. "Another world, one of the ones that no one's ever heard of."

Look how she just breezed through that! Wheee! She was counting on being fast and dismissive to keep people from asking anything more.

"I'm Cade and I'm from your galaxy but a different time," Cade said.

Super helpfully.

"I'm Jessica and I'm from New York," Jessica said. "The land of hitting muggers and taxi cabs."

"Hi, I'm Alex and I'm from New York," Alex said, using her latest address.

"Yeah, I met her," Alex replied, nodding. She was still weirded out about that.

"I'm Shane and I'm from West Australia," Goose said. Since BETA Mountain was more or less his home now, it made it easier just to give the general location.

"My name is Snow White, and I'm from the kingdom of Tabor," Snow said. She had new clothes now, so she felt a lot more comfortable. And learning to fight was something she definitely needed to know.

"I'm Anakin Solo --" he was used to specifying by now -- "and strangely, I'm from the same place you are."

He was also, by this point in the day, feeling like a bit of a brat, apparently.

"Surreal, from Terreille, mostly Hayll," she said. And if she wasn't elaborating, well, Surreal had just spent the last month with her girlfriend, as a cat. She was still getting used to having human-shaped vocal-cords again.

Zeela had learned the proper way to make a fist from a sprained thumb when she was much younger. Her punch was decent enough, though obviously untrained.

Cade had spent faaaaaaaaaaaar too much time in bar fights, so his punches were well-honed.

That poor, poor dummy.

Jessica was holding back like usual, but she was still getting some really good hits in on the dummy. After the past couple weeks, that felt good.

Alex knew what she was doing. She had already been well trained to punch. There were many of those thrown at the dummy, too. This class was both training and catharsis for her.

Goose's punches were precise as blow after blow landed on the dummy that he was using. He was calm and focused as he threw his punches, as this was one of the earliest fighting techniques that he had been taught at Wolf Den, it was practically second nature to him as he kept punching the dummy.

Snow didn't have much experience other than slashing Finn with a rusty nail, so her form was anything but proper. Still, she made up for it with enthusiasm.

Anakin tended to do the majority of his fighting with a weapon, but his recent experience on Yavin 4 had left him convinced that he needed to work on hand-to-hand technique more.

It was probably a little worrisome how intent he was while working over the dummy; he kept thinking over possible counters, critiquing every tiny misjudged angle, and analyzing everything.

Which was typical, if you knew him, just more concentrated than usual.

After class, Zee oh-so-casually stopped by Jaina's desk for a quick talk. "'Scuse me, Miss Solo? I think there might be a weird mix-up for the class. It's happened in a few other ones as well. I signed up for this course, but my name's not here?"

And she would be oh-so-surprised to find there was some other girl's name there instead. Man, that crazy Fandom office!

Jaina, how could you be less than completely convinced by this very well-thought out line of bull that Zeela was spewing?

Like the half-second of surprise as Zeela came up with a last name for herself. "Morragen!" she said in a rush. Then, with an awkward laugh, "Zee Morragen."

*No fair!* Zhahar whispered. *Now I have to be Zhari Medusah!*

Zee gave an almost-imperceptible shrug. =You could always be Zhari Zephyra?=

*Oh, because that doesn't sound ridiculous. Or made up.*

Zee tuned her sister out and gave Jaina a smile. "Even if I'm not on the roster, I'm really excited to be here and looking forward to class," she said. "I want to learn."

That, at least, was true.

"I will," Zee promised. "This is a useful class. I'm not gonna mess anything up, promise."

She'd seen how much more she had to learn compared to just the other students in the class. Zeela was going nowhere.
