Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Whoever worked their magic to ensure that the welcome picnics had nice weather had cut their mojo very close this time around. The weather was lovely today - sunny and hot enough to make it clear that summer in Fandom had finally begun - but the overnight thunderstorms had left puddles all over the lawn that hadn't quite dried up yet.

Still, the tables and chairs had managed to be scattered around, along with the buffet table of ~~moddable~~ food and drinks, and the information table with name tags, the Big and Little Sibling list, and the list of new roommates. The only thing missing was people to enjoy the festivities!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Jane mentioned something about not wishing to 'turn me loose on an unsuspecting population'," Thor said fondly. "You'll find that even the unfamiliar faces are rather... open to the unusual." A beat. "I should also warn you there are others here, from a version of Midgard," or Asgard, sort of, except Loki's Asgard was on Earth now and that was just weird, "that is similar but not quite the same as yours."

More neck-scratching. It was rapidly turning from an awkward nervous tic to a thing Bruce just didn't stop doing.

"Yeah?" he asked. "How can you tell?"

Weird choice of question, Bruce. Some people would have just gone with 'who?'

"Rogers is here- although his face is different, and in talking to him, there are details in our histories that do not match up," Thor explained. Well, sort of. Different worlds was one thing, different versions of the same world was another entirely. "Stark and Loki are children."

Maybe Bruce would miss the 'and Loki' part?

(Unlikely)

"Really?" Wow. So that multiple-timelines-converging-here thing really hadn't been BS. Besides sort of wanting to take a million pictures of tiny Tony to send to the Tony back home, Bruce had to carefully ask, "And Loki, is he...?"

'Still crazy and murderous' probably wasn't the best phrase to use here. Maybe he'd just trail off and leave it up to Thor's interpretation.

"A child," Thor repeated. "Intent on avoiding the path his elder self traveled." And because huge blind spot regarding his little brother aside, Thor isn't actually stupid, he adds: "Somewhat prone to mischief, but of a harmless sort."

"Okay," Bruce assured him hastily, not wanting to offend. "That's good. That's... definitely an improvement. And probably a big relief for you, I'm guessing."

In a way that makes his heart ache whenever he thinks about how the Loki he grew up beside is beyond redemption now.

He tries not to think about it too much.

"It is," he settled on, finally. "And- I can speak to him, if you'd like. Ask him not to cause you trouble."

"Oh, you don't need to on my account," Bruce assured him. "I appreciate the offer, but no need to talk to him on my account. I'll be okay."

All things considered, he was probably the least traumatized by what had happened in Manhattan. Actually, in a weird way, Bruce thought it had been good for him.

"Any other important tips I should be aware of?"

"Along similar lines- be prepared to be recognized by people who've heard of you," Thor added. "And- has anyone mentioned just how peculiar this island can be, at times?"

"Uh, not yet," Bruce said ~~because his teaching buddy thread had not yet occurred~~. "Stranger than child versions of people we already know?"

"I spent a couple of days in possession of a female form," Thor shared solemnly. "It was- an interesting experience."

"Oh."

Yeah, that was probably stranger. Ish. "And that's not just an... Asgardian thing?"

Just because his father and his brother had both been known to do just that on a whim... Loki wasn't even Asgardian, technically.

"I was not the only one on the island so... affected." He doesn't say 'afflicted', because 1) he knows better to imply that women are somehow inferior. He's pretty sure Sif, his mother, and Natasha would all somehow know he'd said such a thing and then he'd get his ass handed to him (Jane and Darcy would probably get a few good hits in too- the latter possibly with a taser) and 2) he made a badass woman, okay.

"I... see." That was pretty weird, actually. Bruce didn't know that he wanted that. "Well, I'll keep an eye out for sudden transformations."

It was hard not to, Bruce. It was hard not to.
