Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Whoever worked their magic to ensure that the welcome picnics had nice weather had cut their mojo very close this time around. The weather was lovely today - sunny and hot enough to make it clear that summer in Fandom had finally begun - but the overnight thunderstorms had left puddles all over the lawn that hadn't quite dried up yet.

Still, the tables and chairs had managed to be scattered around, along with the buffet table of ~~moddable~~ food and drinks, and the information table with name tags, the Big and Little Sibling list, and the list of new roommates. The only thing missing was people to enjoy the festivities!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Bruce braced himself for the inevitable conflict caused by someone recognizing him, then turned and realized that he actually already knew this person. "Agent Barton?" he said, mild but surprised. "Are you teaching here?"

"Uh, yeah, sort of. I mean yes," Clint said. "What are you doing here?"

"I'm teaching too," Bruce said, and he had to wonder whether Tony had known this before choosing this school of all places. "Uh, it was Tony's idea."

"Of course it was," Clint said, rolling his eyes. "Natasha's here too. She doesn't teach, she helps me run the gym in town. It's... kind of a long story, I guess."

Uh, yeah, that was right up there with the picnic on the list of things that Bruce wished he'd been warned about.

"I'm sure she'll be thrilled to hear I'm staying here for a while," he said -- when in doubt, he tended to be self-depricating. It was a thing. "Sorry to intrude on your -- is it an assignment? Or a vacation?"

"It's an assignment," Clint said, keeping his voice low and making sure no squirrels were around. "I'm here seeing why this place is so weird, and Natasha's making sure I don't relapse and try to kill everyone."

Because two could play the self-depricating game.

"Yeah," Bruce said, scratching the back of his neck as he often did when he was feeling awkward and trying to find something mild and funny to say to push past it. "Maybe I should have brought Tony along to take point on that for me. Or a big cannon."

Self-deprecating twins!

"It's probably better you didn't bring Tony with you or he might, uh, run into the Tony that's already here."

Sorry for the confusion Bruce!

Blink. "Excuse me?"

Yeah, about that...

"There's a tiny Tony here," Clint said, holding his hand out to demonstrate Tony's shortness. "He just graduated from school. It's...this is a complicated place."

Bruce rubbed his temples. "I'm starting to see that," he said. "Thank you for the warning. I should probably just be grateful he graduated already and won't be one of my students."

Because teaching Tony Stark did not sound fun, shockingly enough.

"What are you going to be teaching?" Clint said genuinely interested. The Hulk was scary, but Clint was rather fascinated by Dr. Banner and everything he knew about the guy.

"First aid, apparently." Because Tony had decided on it. Bruce needed to work on being more assertive. "Something about the kids around here really needing it?"

Clint snickered. "That... could be useful, yeah," he said. "A lot of them are fighters and--they're really good kids, I should say that. They can use all the survival tricks they can get, I think."

"I don't know how much bandaging techniques and CPR tutorials will help teenage aspiring heroes," Bruce said wryly, because you didn't think the self-deprecation would just stop, did you? "But I'll see what I can do."

Then, because he had some idea but didn't want to just assume: "What are you teaching?"

"Archery. Gotta go with what you know," Clint said with a grin. "My class is almost all girls, it's pretty awesome."

"Mine seems about even," Bruce said, unfolding his folded-up class roster that he'd been keeping in his pocket. "Anyone you know?"

Teachers totally talked about their students, right? That was a thing?

"Let's see," Clint said, looking over the list. "Rilla's really innocent. She's Canadian and I think she's from the past because she's way too polite to be from now. That's also a thing, for the record." Sorry Bruce! "And Stiles is a good kid too. I know of some of the rest of them but I don't actually know them. They're probably all okay kids though."

"Thanks," Bruce said, nodding and committing those names to memory. Wryly, he added, "Somehow someone else and I got on the topic of the possibility of having methhead students, so I thought I'd do my homework and find out what some of these kids are like."

"I can't imagine anything like that going on here. The principal's kind of scary," Clint said. "I thought maybe it'd be a private school for juvenile delinquents too, but I was very wrong."

"I was guessing more of a preppy kind of... prep school," Bruce admitted. "Apparently we were both off. But I think I might have been closer."

Because look at all this free food.

"You were definitely closer. There's a ridiculous amount of money in this place--like, break trips to foreign countries at no cost to us money," Clint said.
