Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Whoever worked their magic to ensure that the welcome picnics had nice weather had cut their mojo very close this time around. The weather was lovely today - sunny and hot enough to make it clear that summer in Fandom had finally begun - but the overnight thunderstorms had left puddles all over the lawn that hadn't quite dried up yet.

Still, the tables and chairs had managed to be scattered around, along with the buffet table of ~~moddable~~ food and drinks, and the information table with name tags, the Big and Little Sibling list, and the list of new roommates. The only thing missing was people to enjoy the festivities!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

So, Dean was trying his hand at teaching. Which meant he should probably show up for this whole picnic thing.

On the plus side? Free food. Which he was taking liberal advantage of.

"So, you've decided to teach?" Zoe said in greeting as she came up beside Dean. She thought about adding "Just like your father," but she had a sneaking suspicion that might not be a good thing.

Well, when she was involved...

Dean choked a little on his food, coughing it up into his hand as he attempted to breathe. "He taught here?"

"Yes, for a little while," Zoe said. Would it be weird to pat Dean on the back as he coughed? Hopefully not, because that's what she was doing. "I'm glad you're going to be working with Sam. It's nice to have him back around."

"Yeah," Dean replied once his windpipe was clear of chips. "It's nice to have family around."

"It's very nice, even when it's unusual family," Zoe said. "All teasing aside, I'm glad to have you around too."

Dean shot her a look for that, as though to see if she was telling the truth about it. "Yeah, we're a weird bunch," he finally said. "Your kid--"

"Grace," Zoe said, "is always better off with brothers around. Even half, hypothetical brothers."

"Grace. She's a Winchester," he said carefully. "There's some stuff that might come up if Sam's life follows the Sam back home."

In the pit with the devil. As you do.

"Perhaps. I know that being a Winchester isn't exactly the safest life choice," Zoe said. "But I also know that nothing is going to happen to my little girl."

If she looked a little scary in that moment, well, there was a reason John had married her.

Well, it did cause Dean to shift back for a moment. "Which is why I'm mentioning it," he replied gruffly. "We--I don't know how different things were here, but where I'm from, we've got a half brother. And there are things that will come for her like they came for him."

No, not the ghouls. God.

"And I'm not gonna let that happen again."

"Good, then we're in agreement," Zoe said. "See, things will be fine."
