Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of tables and chairs scattered around the lawn for anyone who wanted to sit down once they'd had their fill of the buffet, or to recover from starting to find out what this place was all about. No one would judge the need to take a mental breather.

Some of the tables were out in the open, for those who weren't allergic to the sun, and some of the tables were in the shade, or far from the rest of the crowd. Wherever people decided to rest, there was space enough for everyone.

[OCD is up! This is the post for general mingling! Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here! Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"It's very impressive," Raven assured him. And six years ago, she would have gone pretty well ape-shit over it all. It didn't hold a candle to some of the Xaviers' dinner parties, though. "Though . . . what are those?" She pointed out a bowl of cheese curls. She was pretty sure that wasn't a food color, in her world.

"Cheese curls," Cade said, "though I'm pretty sure real cheese has never met them. They're good, but they dye your fingers orange."

Raven wrinkled her nose. "The color makes them look like they've been attacked by something atomic."

"Wouldn't be surprised," Cade admitted. "They're pretty tasty anyway."

"I'll have to take your word for it," Raven said. "I'm not sure I'm quite ready for that kind of future-food."

"Future food?" Cade repeated. "When are you from?"

"1953?" Raven said. "I'm told this is 2013."

"On this planet, at least," Cade agreed.

"So there are colonies on other planets?" Oh good, the future wasn't as backwards as she was starting to think it was.

"Well, where I come from," Cade said, "but I'm from a different galaxy."

"Really?!" Raven stared. "You're a space alien?"

Cade nodded. "Well, I'm still human. I'm not hiding antennae or anything."

"And you're not green." She only sounded slightly disappointed by that. "What's it like in other galaxies?"

"Less cheese puffs," Cade offered. "We also have starships that can fly between planets and pretty cool weapons and stuff."

And evil magic-wielding beings that took over the place, but you can't have everything, right?

"See, that's what I always thought the future would look like."

"It's not bad," Cade agreed. "We also have all kinds of non-humans around--Hutts and Twi'leks and Wookiees and Bothans and Rodians...this place is pretty boring in comparison. Too many humans."

"I don't know what a single one of those other things are," Raven said, "and I get the feeling that that is a crying shame."

"It really is," Cade said, pulling out his comlink. "Here," he said, punching a few buttons and pulling up a three-D picture. "She's (http://images.wikia.com/starwars/images/9/95/TwilekNEGAS.png) a Twi'lek."

"She's blue!" Raven was delighted. "Now this is the future!"

Cade grinned back at her. "Have you met Liara yet? She's not a Twi'lek but she's blue too. Different galaxy than mine."

"There are blue students here?" HOLY SHIT. Were they shunned? Did people make fun of them? They were blue in public?

Yeah, Raven's mind was thoroughly blown here. The faintest glimmer started in her head, that maybe, just maybe, she could actually relax here, sometimes. Not always be partially focussed on maintaining a normal human facade.

The part of her that had spent 15 years hiding in terror, though, was keeping that glimmer from getting too bright, just yet.

Okay, that reaction was, well, Cade didn't use the term adorable, but pretty karking memorable.

"Well, just the one, but she's nice," Cade said.

"I'll have to keep an eye out for her," Raven decided. She had so many questions.

Cade smiled. "Well, it's a small school. You're bound to see her eventually."

"That's right," Raven said. "And our conversation seems to have come full circle."
