Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of tables and chairs scattered around the lawn for anyone who wanted to sit down once they'd had their fill of the buffet, or to recover from starting to find out what this place was all about. No one would judge the need to take a mental breather.

Some of the tables were out in the open, for those who weren't allergic to the sun, and some of the tables were in the shade, or far from the rest of the crowd. Wherever people decided to rest, there was space enough for everyone.

[OCD is up! This is the post for general mingling! Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here! Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Toby was almost finished with Cross Check so... yeah, he'd brought the book with him.

What? Shut up, it was a good book. And he needed to know if West and Sazanov could sort their shit out in time for the playoffs.

In an effort to make himself seem approachable despite the bringing along of reading material to a social event, he'd made sure to pick a table that was close to the majority of the picnic activity. Engrossing as the plot was, Toby was perfectly amenable to being interrupted.

Kaidan had grabbed some food and a perch somewhere at the edges of the whole thing. Still keeping his eyes on the students, because again, you never knew.

Atton almost hadn't bothered showing up at all, because a day to sleep in was a day you shouldn't be wasting on anything else.

But eventually he got hungry.

So there he was now, tearing through the food.

Peter had gone outside for his habitual 'check out the newbies and see if anyone might be useful' vigil. But he got bored of that fairly quickly, and wound up sitting back with - yes - his phone in his hand not soon afterwards.

Liara sat on a chair she had picked out mostly for its distance to the picnic's epicenter. She wasn't terribly in her element talking to strangers as it was, and the deluge of 'but you're blue' she knew was coming... would not help with that.

Victor was still recovering from the split with Olive, but a picnic was a picnic and it felt wrong to skip it totally. He might not stay that long, but he'd at least come down for a snack and some people-watching. He was putting the odds of someone he knew showing up at 50-50.

The picnic was coming at the ideal time for Bay, who was glad to have something besides family stuff to think about. She was feeling more social than usual as she got to the picnic area, with an almost manic edge if you paid close attention.

After a day to recover from the Great Shot Experiment of Thursday night, Cade was there with a large canvas bag (for extra food to bring back to the dorms), an enormous mug of (spiked) coffee and a sharp eye out for any new hot girls.

Cade had excellent priorities.

Raven got herself some food, a little dazedly. She was not 100% convinced that she hadn't fallen asleep on the plane and was dreaming all this.

She'd been driven here by a talking pink pony, after all. Even for someone whose natural state was blue and scaley, that was a bit much.

Still, she made an effort to look around at her new fellow students, smiling any time she made eye contact and half wishing Charles were here. He was always much better at the charming first impression than she was.

He could be excused for missing Ender the first couple of times, considering Ender wasn't a hot girl or a pile of food. That was fine.

Alec didn't always make it out to these things, but he'd spent the last few weeks so uncomfortably solitary that he'd actually paid attention to when it was happening this time. He was probably going to spend the good majority of it pacing around the circumference of the park and wanting to go back inside, but look, he was trying.

Freshly back from Bay's universe, Gert was more than ready for a picnic. She and Old Lace found a shady spot to sit in, where Gert sat leaning against her dinosaur, who was curled protectively around her.

Look, Old Lace was a genetically-engineered deinonychus; she could take the pressure of one teenager leaning against her.
