Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of tables and chairs scattered around the lawn for anyone who wanted to sit down once they'd had their fill of the buffet, or to recover from starting to find out what this place was all about. No one would judge the need to take a mental breather.

Some of the tables were out in the open, for those who weren't allergic to the sun, and some of the tables were in the shade, or far from the rest of the crowd. Wherever people decided to rest, there was space enough for everyone.

[OCD is up! This is the post for general mingling! Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here! Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Hey there," Cade said with a tiny smile. "Haven't seen you around in a while."

"You've been looking?" Bay asked teasingly, before ceding to reality. "I was home most of last week. Family stuff. Just got back yesterday."

"Maybe I was looking," Cade agreed with a little smile. "It was boring here last week."

"What, no rain of frogs or anything to keep you busy?" Bay asked, with a grin of her own. "Poor you."

"It was very sad," Cade said. "The most exciting thing I did was invent a shot at Caritas."

"Now you have to tell me what was in it," Bay said immediately. She was off drinking for a bit -- having your bio mom go to rehab would do that to you -- but she didn't mind hearing about other people doing it.

"Red Jello, tequila and hot sauce," Cade said.

Mmm, health food.

Bay looked faintly appalled. "Why hot sauce?"

Cherry jello and tequila made perfect sense.

"Because I'm spicy," Cade said, waggling his eyebrows in a ridiculous way.

Hopefully the desired effect of Cade's eyebrow-waggle was laughter, because that was what he was getting. "Hey, I am so not judging."

"We'll have to go back to Caritas together on Jello shot night," Cade decided. "We can figure out what ingredients would be in a Bay."

"Thank you for not going to the crab seasoning place right away," Bay said honestly. "Maybe lime jello with mint and rum? Like ... mojito-y."

She still wasn't in a hurry to get wasted or anything, but bringing up her bio mom's issues seemed like a good way to ruin a fun conversation.

"Crab seasoning?" Cade repeated.

He'd managed live in Maryland most of a year and still not get it.

"There's this thing called Old Bay," Bay explained. "And wow, now I am sorry I mentioned it. But it's, like, cayenne pepper and salt and paprika. People put it on seafood."

"Sounds kind of good," Cade said, then gave her a wicked smile, "but you don't taste like that."

Bay flashed a grin. "And you don't taste much like cherry jello and hot sauce, so we're even."
