Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of tables and chairs scattered around the lawn for anyone who wanted to sit down once they'd had their fill of the buffet, or to recover from starting to find out what this place was all about. No one would judge the need to take a mental breather.

Some of the tables were out in the open, for those who weren't allergic to the sun, and some of the tables were in the shade, or far from the rest of the crowd. Wherever people decided to rest, there was space enough for everyone.

[OCD is up! This is the post for general mingling! Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here! Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Second person that's mentioned the pony to me," Theo said. He was really gonna have to see this pony with his own eyes. "She sounds like a big deal."

"A talking pony?" Ange said, sounding thoughtful. "Theo, you must seek this pony out. It'll be a learning experience."

So, he'd probably be doing that some point. Not right now. "Last time I was even around a pony was a pony ride when I was like...four. The pony didn't like me."

"She's not really more of a big deal than the other teachers, but she's a good talking point for how strange things can be around here," Jessica said. "I mean, you can go, 'We have a talking pony. See?' and point."

Jessica looked around. "Well, if you spot her you can point."

"So far," Theo said, ticking each thing off on his finger, "I've got talking ponies, turning into a girl randomly and snow in July. Seems like this place has plenty of talking points."

"So you've been getting the rundown," Jessica said. "You're already better prepared than I was, lo those many months ago." Well, not really. Being the female clone of a male superhero meant she was VERY well prepared for all kinds of insanity.

"That mean you been here long?" Theo asked her. "Bay did a pretty good job of hitting the high points, I think. My parents are never gonna hear about them but I appreciate what she did."

"It'll be a year for me at the end of summer," Jessica said. "Feels like longer, though. In a good way. Mostly."

"I appreciate you not hazing me," Theo said, mostly joking. He hadn't expected that to happen.

...okay, he thought it might happen but he was glad he wasn't. "Seemed to get enough of that back west."

"There's no need to haze the new kids. Not when the island hazes us all regularly with all that weird stuff," Jessica said lightly.

"So, any advice for a new kid on getting through the first few bouts of weirdness without going insane?"

He was already toeing that line anyway.

"Sure. Just remember that the weirdest stuff is gone in a day. Or two. Three at the very most," Jessica said. "Unless it's already weird today, in which case it's just local color and you'll get used to it."

"So, basically just hang on tight and let nature run its course," Theo surmised. "I can probably do that, yeah. If not, I'll just...hide."

"You will not," Ange said, sounding scolding. "You do not hide, Theodore."

Theo sighed.

"That's a fair choice and it's one I've gone with before," Jessica said. "But yeah, it's a pretty cool place as long as you figure out ways to deal with that stuff, head on or by hiding."

"I think how I handle it will depend on what I'm having to handle," Theo said, shrugging one shoulder. "Pink ponies don't really need hiding. Turning into a girl? That...will take some getting used to."
