BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge, Saturday Morning

After having eaten every single one of her favorite dishes, all made by her dear father, and then having been hugged to near death by said father as well (and some other hugs by totally-not-mopey redheads), Anya had finally gotten to start her little trip to Fandom. What should have been a fairly simple operation (she was right there) that would have taken her about three hours had to be further complicated when certain billionaire with a penchant for super suits insisted on getting her a private jet. At least he didn't hug her, but he might as well. Anya wasn't complaining though; it had been a pretty sweet ride, and probably the only chance she would have to travel via one of those.

But that was then and now she was somewhere completely different. It was a little scary, true, but also very exciting to her. Even if she hadn't loved the idea of leaving the few friends she had a world apart, literally, you didn't get chances like this all the time.

Now she only needed to find the people she was supposed to find. Somehow. Yep, no problem.

Raven had just finished her first plane ride ever -- and yes, it was just as swanky as all the magazine ads made it out to be, though she was never going to get the cigarette smell out of her hair -- and as such was not so much with the acting cool, just now. More half-excited, half-terrified.

"Is this the shuttle to Fandom High School?" she asked, looking around the room as she set down a matched set of large blue suitcases -- a going away present from Charles. "I'm not late, am I?"

Having a stinking rich foster brother did have its benefits. "Oh good." Raven smiled back and offered her hand to shake. "I'm Raven. It took so long to get my bags I was worried I'd miss it. I should have just taken the train, but how often do you get a chance to fly anywhere?"

Okay, she was babbling. Deep breath, Raven. It would not do to lose control and go blue in your first meeting with a new classmate.

Even with Charles' money and connections, Raven was still a good seven years from private jet travel -- though what a jet it would be, when she got there. "Where did you come in from, then?" she asked. "I guess we'll get folks from all over, here."

That got a blink from Raven. "Portals." It's not really a question. She could shapeshift and her brother could read minds. Who was she to scoff at portals? "I think I missed that part of the brochure."

"I didn't really look," Raven admitted sheepishly. "I never know where anything is outside of New York state, anyway."

That wasn't entirely true. She actually did pretty well in geography. But normal girls tried not to seem too smart, and Raven was still trying to be as normal as possible.

Raven shrugged. "It's like a world?" she said. How did you describe your world? She didn't know what any others were supposed to look like. "We have a New York and a Brooklyn and all that. I'm from Westchester," she added. "My brother and I go into the city on the train sometimes." She shrugged again. "I don't know what to say. What's your world like? Maybe we can compare them that way."

It was only long practice at keeping her expression neutral that kept Raven from startling. Super people? "You mean, like in comic books?" she asked. She and Charles had had many a night when they were younger, reading comics and talking about what it'd be like if they were superheroes. The answer, to Raven, at least, usually involved an angry mob accusing her of being a monster.

Raven shook her head. "Not that we couldn't use some," she said. "Send them after the Russians."

Because clearly Anya's world would also be fighting a Cold War with Russia, right?

Raven did stare a little at that. Superheroes aside, Anya's world had been sounding a lot like hers, and, well, you couldn't breathe in America and not know about the Russians.

"They're building bombs!" Raven told her. "They're trying to take over the world."

Well, from what she, as a fifteen year old from a fairly sheltered, upper-class home, could tell anyway.

Raven nodded. "That's what they call it in all the papers. So you have it in your world, too?"

That look, Anya? That look was a big old obviously "No."

"Is that some kind of vegetable?"

They hadn't even invented 8-tracks yet in Raven's world.

"Or," Raven said, "the island is like my world and the stores will sell transistor radios and dashing hats."

The shuttle swerved up to the curb habhazardly, possibly looking like it was about to run over something important -- only to twist at the last possible moment and end up perfectly parked.

There were advantages to cartoon physics.

Pinkie opened the door with a bright, cheerful grin, the radio blaring several notes of . . . was that Katy Perry? before Pinkie flicked it off with the tip of her hoof.

"Hi everypony! Welcome welcome welcome!"

Pinkie considered that for a moment, face screwing up in an exaggerated expression of thoughtfulness.

"Okay," she said. "But don't mess it up." She leaned her head over so Anya could reach.

"Well, me, silly!" Pinkie said, pumping the gas once to rev the engine for emphasis. "Don't tell anyone," she whispered really loudly. "It's my first time!"

You weren't hoping for a safe drive to campus, were you, Anya?

"That's a really good question," Pinkie said. "I have no idea!"

Yep.

"But don't worry, I drive floats in the parades back home in Ponyville all the time, and I almost never crash them."

"I wish," Pinkie said cheerfully. "You know, there's barely any ponies in Fandom at all! And the ones there are are all really boring." They didn't even talk for Celestia's sake. "Mostly its all you human folk running around. Which, let me tell you, was one heck of an adjustment, when I first showed up!"

She had no problem with Anya playing copilot if she wanted. It was possibly for the best, in fact, as Pinkie was just the sort to get distracted and go take a nap in the back of the bus while it was in motion.
