Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2013, Early Saturday Evening [Part 2]

As the last graduate took his seat with his diploma, a faint rumble rattled the folding chairs.

The noise grew louder and the tremors grew worse and true to Fandom graduation protocols, a invisible, impenetrable dome came down to separate the graduates from the rest of the audience.

The rumble faded away into uneasy silence.

Then:

"Dig...Lett...DIG!"

Now might be a good time to see what's in those ACME boxes, grads...

Raven was far too used to this now. She sighed and shook her head, keeping an eye on Karla as best she could.

She'd also do her best to assure any anxious Kaeleer visitors that this was completely normal, and Karla would be fine.

"Here we go," Dinah said, leaning forward, video camera recording. "Think her gown will survive this?"

Raven smiled at Dinah. "I think she will be showing off what she can do with her new Jewel," she said.

"Too true. This really is the perfect time to do it. What are those things?" Dinah wondered, stopping to look around the viewfinder for a minute.

"I have no idea," Raven said. "They do not seem malicious, though." She wasn't down with smacking them around just because they were there, though it was dangerous with the way the earth was moving.

"Props for new and weird ways to mess with the grads," Dinah observed. "Although I'm a little sorry they're not making Karla sing. That was funny."

"Singing is not so bad," Raven said, watching the creatures and trying to figure out if they were up to something other than general mayhem. "Though there is enough of that forced from Fandom on those special days."

"No joke," Dinah mused. "So are you guys going straight to Glacia tomorrow, do you know? Or is it going to be a week or so?... Probably better to ask Karla, really. But I so need to pack."

"I am not entirely certain," Raven said. "I know it will be soon. I have placed everything I do not need in storage in Gotham, however, and I am ready to go as soon as she is. But I would like to be able to say my goodbyes to Barbara and Helena and Alfred before we go."

Dinah smiled at her, bumping her arm against hers. "How about a good-bye dinner this week? Alfred can make your favorites. And I bet Barbara has a surprise or two up her sleeve for you."

"I would like that very much," Raven said, smiling back and leaning her head on Dinah's shoulder. "I will miss them all when we leave."

"I'm going to miss you too." Dinah put her arm around Raven's shoulders. "I'll be seeing you all this summer, or however long it takes to get Glacia sorted out. But it won't be the same."

"Will you be able to protect New Gotham without me?" Raven said, teasing. "Or will that man in the green hood be around more often?"

"Heeeeyyy," Dinah objected, turning pinker and poking at Raven. "I guess we'll see. Or I'll see. Or something. Pffttt!"

"If you do not mind me asking, what is going on between you and Priestley?" Raven had to ask, because nosy empath was nosy. Her tone was still gently teasing, though. "Are you keeping one man in Gotham and one in Fandom?"

"Oh God not you too! Raveeeen! I thought you loved meeee!" Dinah thunked her head on Raven's shoulder.

"I do!" Raven protested. "That is why I asked, because I want those I love to be happy. And you have just been spending a lot of time with him as of late!"

"Uuuunf." Dinah straightened, then considered Raven's question in that light. "Nothing's changed between us that way. We're still best friends. Not dating." She thought a minute, then admitted, "There were more than the usual number of scares in a row. So I might be hanging out here more lately, especially since I'll be gone more this summer. And... I dunno. He's fun to flirt with? Because it never goes anywhere else beyond that?" This was not a topic she had all her words in a row for. She cocked her head. "What do you pick up on, when you're around us?"

"I try not to spy on my friends when it comes to matters of romance," Raven said. "Unless I am asked. It would be rude."

And too much of a temptation as well, so she did her best to shield it out unless she thought something was wrong.

"Smart." And kind of good to know that nothing empathic in particular had prompted that question. "Momoko and Karla have been poking at us, trying to get us together, off and on all year. Which would just be funny if they weren't so invested in it for their own reasons. I think they've given up on it for now, though."

Well, she could dream, anyway.

Momoko made her way through the seats, looking for the !!!KARLA!!!! contingency. She had a time of it since she was carrying as many snacks as she could.

"MMVN? MRRY MYM MATE; MN MY MIT MERE?"

Which could be translated to "Raven? SOrry I'm late; can I sit here?" if you took into account the fact she had a bag of hummus chips in her mouth.



Brain melted yesterday and I zoned it was even graduation!

"Of course you may sit," Raven said. She spoke mumbling! But she did offer a helping hand or two so that Momoko could settle without dropping all her snacks. Mmm, hummus chips.

"Oof! Thank you! I hope I got enough for everyone. Am I in time for the graduation test? I saw the procession from the path." She plopped into her seat with en eyeroll and a grin. "Stupid Portalocity."

"I think it is about to begin," Raven said, nodding toward the stage. She squinted at the strange creatures that were appearing. "I do not know what those are, however."

"Ah! Yay! Help yourself to the handwavysnacks, by the way. I got stranded in an interdimensional mall or something so I bought anything I could recognize. It's not aliens, is it?" Momoko opened a bag of candy herself. Or at least she hoped it was candy... "They're not molemen. Though they kind of look like it... Have they come out of the ground all the way, yet?"
