Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2013, Early Saturday Evening [Part 1]

The ceremony was set for right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, and the lawn of the school had been lit up with blue and gold lights, creating safe paths in which to walk to the seating area and giving everything a twinkling, serene appearance.

Of course, the staff could hardly remember the last time graduation had been a serene experience and so their smiles were genuine but their eyes were alert to anything that could go wrong. The folding chairs had been cleaned of any of last year's drop bear residue and when the scene was perfect, the guests were welcomed in.

Congratulations, Class of 2013! All you have left to do is get through the ceremony. No problem, right?

Ender removed himself from Ben's side for a few moments shortly before the festivities. He stopped by the first familiar face he noticed.

"Bod," he greeted. "Hey."

"Hullo, Ender," Bod said, giving the other boy a nod. "It's good to see you again. How are you?"

"Well enough, barring about a week's worth of Portalocity trouble," Ender said dryly, though he dropped the tone as he segued into, "But how's life treating you?"

He wasn't going to say 'we haven't spoken for a while' because, well... he wasn't exactly mr. Chatty With Old Friends either.

"Quite well," Bod said with a nod. "Kate and I are doing well. We've a dog now. He's quite the handful."

"What's his name?" Ender asked, smiling a little.

"Seamus Von Slade," bod said, snickering at the name. "The first part was my suggestion and the last two were Kate's. He's a corgi."

Ender blinked. "...So where does the Von Slade come from?"

"I don't even know," Bod admitted with another laugh. "Kate's very, very creative mind, I would guess. She has a talent for unique names."

"I can tell," Ender said, not without amusement. "How is he a handful? Ben and I aren't exactly pet people. We keep droids."

"He's just very energetic as most puppies are," Bod laughed. "He likes to be in the middle of all things and enjoys being underfoot and enjoys attention."

"Is there anything left standing in your house?" Ender asked. Then paused, and said, "...or apartment."

"Apartment," Bod said, nodding. "And amazingly, yes. We've had a few things chewed but despite the pup's energy, he does like the toys we've bought specifically for him. He just likes to run around and have us chase him more."

"So I should have asked if you and Kate have knocked anything over yet while in pursuit," Ender said.

"Now, that has happened," Bod confirmed with a nod. "But nothing breakable. We don't tend to keep breakable things around anyway so just things like books and drinks and the like."
