Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2013, Early Saturday Evening [Part 1]

The ceremony was set for right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, and the lawn of the school had been lit up with blue and gold lights, creating safe paths in which to walk to the seating area and giving everything a twinkling, serene appearance.

Of course, the staff could hardly remember the last time graduation had been a serene experience and so their smiles were genuine but their eyes were alert to anything that could go wrong. The folding chairs had been cleaned of any of last year's drop bear residue and when the scene was perfect, the guests were welcomed in.

Congratulations, Class of 2013! All you have left to do is get through the ceremony. No problem, right?

In the staff seating area at the edge of the stage, Bo looked a little apprehensive and a little armed. Not that she didn't have a smile to offer if someone spoke to her, but when that wasn't happening, her face dropped into a wary frown.

She'd been here long enough to know something always happened at graduation, but not -- unlike Zoe and Anakin -- long enough to come to grips with the idea that even though that was supposed to be her job, there wasn't a damn thing she could do about it.

Duh, of course Kate was going to be social. She was all dressed up and stuff, it was mandatory.

See, there was the smile! "Hey, Kate. Not afraid we're gonna get kidnapped by Vikings again, or did you come back on purpose because you hope it happens?"

Kate snorted. "Mostly, I'm here to see a couple of demigods graduate. I mean, I'm ready to kick some Viking ass, but mostly they didn't factor in me coming here, either way."

"Eric'll probably be around once the sun goes down, if your heart's really set on it." Bo grinned.

"It's not, really," Kate replied, with a chuckle. "I'd rather get drinks out of him than... get myself killed trying to kick his ass."

"Probably a good idea if you're not a vampire this weekend," Bo agreed. Which she'd guess no, since according to the security reports, the vampires who'd controlled the alternate Fandom had been the sun-allergic kind. "So how's life in Kansas been treating you?"

"Pretty splendidly, thanks for asking," Kate said. Because modesty was not a thing. "Okay, my job still sucks like half the time, but Bod and I passed the two-year mark, and also we have the most adoooorable doggy baby now."

"Please tell me you mean that in the 'we let our pet eat table scraps' sense, and not the 'Fandom island warped our DNA' sense?"

Kate took a second to look horrified. "Uh, no, it's definitely the first thing. He's a corgi. Just a normal dog."

"Having met some of my possible kids," Bo said, "I didn't wanna assume. Or, you know. Judge."

Judging herself for the fathers of her children was different, of course.
