Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2013, Early Saturday Evening [Part 1]

The ceremony was set for right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, and the lawn of the school had been lit up with blue and gold lights, creating safe paths in which to walk to the seating area and giving everything a twinkling, serene appearance.

Of course, the staff could hardly remember the last time graduation had been a serene experience and so their smiles were genuine but their eyes were alert to anything that could go wrong. The folding chairs had been cleaned of any of last year's drop bear residue and when the scene was perfect, the guests were welcomed in.

Congratulations, Class of 2013! All you have left to do is get through the ceremony. No problem, right?

Kitty was at least friendly with a couple of the graduates, and she'd skipped last year's ceremony only to find out afterwards what happened. So, she figured she could be on hand, either for a show, or to help if that was a thing that needed to be done.

Besides, she'd only ever seen high school graduations on TV. It was time to fix that.

Clint... had probably looked better, but he had graduates to watch for so he figured he probably wouldn't fall asleep during the ceremony. "Do you think people are going to do a lot of talking?" He didn't really have a point of reference when it came to graduations.

"Uhh, I think there are some speeches, and the part where everyone walks takes the longest." She wasn't entirely sure, either. She looked over at him and asked, "You doing okay?"

"Yeah, I'm good," Clint said quickly, smiling at her. "Lucky's been requesting early walks lately." Because when you couldn't sleep, blaming your dog was a great idea.

"That's when you let him out for a minute and then go back to bed," Kitty pointed out. "And back to happy sleep."

Oh happy sleep, what a concept. "That doesn't work for overprotective dog owners," he said with a smirk.

"Would you like me to spend the night and I can walk Lucky in the morning?" Kitty offered, only half teasing.

To Clint's credit, he gave the appearance of thinking about it before shaking his head, instead of shutting that down completely. "No, no, I'm good. I'm sure he'll stop soon." Maybe when it stopped being the beginning of May. "Do you know a lot of the people graduating?" Look at that smooth subject change, Kitty.

Smooth, Clint. She didn't even think to be worried that he didn't want her over.

"Kenzi works for me. Otherwise I'm just here in case anything big happens," she said. "What about you?"

"Natalie's the main one, although I talked her into being my assistant in archery this summer, so she's not really going anywhere yet," Clint said. "Should I have brought popcorn for this? Does it get weird?"

"I guess there have been attacks in the past?" Kitty said with a shrug. "I didn't come last year but it seems to be a graduation tradition."

Oh yeah, that was exactly what he needed right now. "Bad attacks, or island-esque ones?" he asked, managing to laugh a little. "I don't see people armed and ready... well, no more than usual, at least."

"Not sure. I think it's pretty tame, by Fandom standards," she said. "So I didn't come armed-" She never did. "-but a fight wouldn't shock me."

"I don't think I can go anywhere unarmed. That's one lesson I've learned in the past year," Clint said.

"That's kind of a rough lesson to learn," Kitty said honestly.

Clint shrugged, not considering it that big of a deal. "I used to go most places armed anyway. Airport security is always a fun experience."

"I'm betting they don't get a ton if people trying to bring bows on board..." she said, smiling a little.

"They clearly don't judging from the funny looks I get. Honestly, it's an ancient weapon, you'd think people would be used to seeing it by now," Clint said, shaking his head and laughing.

"Guess it'll just have to be one of those things that makes you nice and unique," Kitty told him, reaching for his hand.

"It is kind of nice to be one in a million," Clint said, looking smug and giving her hand a squeeze in return.

"I would have told you you're that even without the involvement of airport security," Kitty laughed.

"Yes, but you're completely biased," Clint pointed out. "And you tell me things I like to hear because you're nice."

"No, I tell you things you like to hear because they're true," Kitty countered. "If I don't mean it, I don't say it."

Clint looked like he might argue with that for a moment, but he also knew Kitty was a genuinely honest person, so arguing seemed a little petty no matter how cranky he was feeling. Especially since the crankiness wasn't her fault. "I know. And I appreciate all the nice things you say, I really do."

"Good, you should." And since she'd caught that look, but chalked it up to him just being hard on himself. "So is there anything I can do to make today better?"
