Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2013, Early Saturday Evening [Part 1]

The ceremony was set for right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, and the lawn of the school had been lit up with blue and gold lights, creating safe paths in which to walk to the seating area and giving everything a twinkling, serene appearance.

Of course, the staff could hardly remember the last time graduation had been a serene experience and so their smiles were genuine but their eyes were alert to anything that could go wrong. The folding chairs had been cleaned of any of last year's drop bear residue and when the scene was perfect, the guests were welcomed in.

Congratulations, Class of 2013! All you have left to do is get through the ceremony. No problem, right?

"How the hell has it been two years since I was the one in a funky robe getting a diploma?"

Kate couldn't understand.

"Because time is always moving forward, dearest," Bod said, reaching for her hand and lacing his fingers with hers. "But you still look just as beautiful now as you did then."

Kate snorted. "Yeah, because it was two years ago, not twenty."

"You can't just take my compliment?" asked Bod with a little laugh. "I call you gorgeous and you argue. Shame."

"I'm also exactly as argumentative as when I graduated, dearest," Kate replied without missing a beat, giving his fingers a squeeze. "But thank you."

"It's too bad we couldn't bring Seamus," Bod said, glancing around. "I think he would have loved the beach."

"We'll bring him sometime in the summer," Kate decided, shrugging. "When there's no danger of him interrupting a major rite of passage in the lives of some of the people we care about."

"Seamus would be offended that you think he'd be a disruption," Bod said, tsking her lightly. "You're not wrong because I agree but he has your personality so he'd be offended."

Kate rolled her eyes at him and tugged his hand to her so she could kiss his knuckles.

"Don't be silly."

"I'm merely being honest," Bod told her innocently. "He's a very colorful puppy. That's your personality at work."

"I do not run around like a lunatic."

As much.

"You're excitable in other ways," Bod retorted. "Yes, you don't run around like a lunatic as much as Seamus but you are very excitable."

"Shush." Great argument, Kate. Great. Really. "I'm willing to own up to all the napping being my influence but not that."

"And I seem to influence him not at all," Bod said, mock sadly. "He's got you wrapped around his tiny, little paw."

"Oh, like he doesn't have you," Kate scoffed. "Come on, you're like the easiest ever when it comes to that."

"I don't think I'm as easy as you are," Bod argued with a shake of his head. "That's not possible."

"I'm not easy!"

Probably not the thing to raise her (amused) voice about in polite company.

"And now everyone at graduation knows that," Bod said, snickering. "Well done, Kate."

Kate didn't even look ashamed, not really. "Well, then they can all be my witness on this."

Mostly they'd testify you couldn't take her anywhere.

"Just because they're witnesses doesn't mean they side with you," Bod pointed out. "That just means they heard you."

"Don't make me go get Luke from where the grads are," Kate replied, wagging a finger at him. "He'll side with me."

"And you don't think I could find someone to side with me?" Bod asked. "I bet I could."

"Yeah but you won't," she retorted. "'Cause we're here to watch people graduate."

"True, true," Bod said, glancing back at the stage. "I'll behave if you behave. Deal?"

Kate gave his hand a squeeze. "Deal."

Behaving wouldn't include not jumping up and down once Luke got his diploma, but he probably knew that anyway.
