Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2013, Early Saturday Evening [Part 1]

The ceremony was set for right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, and the lawn of the school had been lit up with blue and gold lights, creating safe paths in which to walk to the seating area and giving everything a twinkling, serene appearance.

Of course, the staff could hardly remember the last time graduation had been a serene experience and so their smiles were genuine but their eyes were alert to anything that could go wrong. The folding chairs had been cleaned of any of last year's drop bear residue and when the scene was perfect, the guests were welcomed in.

Congratulations, Class of 2013! All you have left to do is get through the ceremony. No problem, right?

Raven found a seat in the audience, scarcely able to believe that it had been a whole year since she'd graduated. She scanned the crowd to find anyone she recognized.

Cassidy took a seat next to Raven as soon as she spotted her. She smiled at her, looking almost as cheerful as normal.

"Hello, Cassidy," Raven said, leaning over to give her a hug. "How are you?"

Cassidy hugged her back, trying not to cling.

"Happy for everyone, but a little sad, too." She pulled back. "How are you?"

"I am finding it difficult to believe a whole year has passed since I graduated," Raven said. "But I am very excited for Karla and the others."

"This year seems to have passed way too quickly," Cassidy murmured. "I am excited for our friends and I hope this year passes very quickly."

"Do you have just one year remaining here?" Raven asked.

She glanced up toward the stage. "Karla intends to return to Glacia soon, and I will be going with her, of course."

Cassidy nodded. "Yes, this will be my last year, here." She smiled. "To set up her Court. You will make a wonderful Court Healer, Raven."

Raven blushed but soaked up the praise. "I certainly hope so," she said. "I have been studying your world in the books you and Karla have given me. It is so unlike Azarath, or even here. But it will be my new home."

"I believe that you will quite enjoy living there," Cassidy said sincerely. "Even with the issues happening there, Kaeleer is a an amazing place to live."

And it was home.

"It will very nice to have a home again," Raven said, nodding. Azarath was gone, and Gotham had always been meant to be temporary. "Though I know it will take some time to settle in."

And by "time" she meant a war. No big.

"It's always good to know that you have a home no matter where you are traveling." Cassidy agreed. "Settling in is one of those things that seems to have to happen over time."

Oh yes, Cassidy knew what her friends were going into. It bothered her that she couldn't go with them to help them.

"Plus, having friends around to help is always a good thing."

"Oh yes," Raven agreed. "Warren will be going, of course...and Jono. And others like Dinah and Momoko will be lending their aid as well. Hopefully all will go well."

She was trying to be optimistic.

"And I am just a call away, as well," Cassidy reminded her.

"Of course," Raven said, giving Cassidy a smile. "Though Karla intends to do this on her own, with her own Court. She does not wish to involve outside help."

"But I am not outside help," Cassidy said with a faint smile. "I'm a friend and she is family."

"But you are not part of her Court," Raven gently pointed out. "She will not be involving Jaenelle or Prince Lucivar or Lord Saetan, either."

Cassidy chewed on her bottom lip as she tried to figure out how to put her thoughts into words that would not come out wrong or make it sound as if she was belittling herself.

"I can see why she would not want to involve them, but there would be a difference if she let me help if I could."

Cassidy was only a minor Queen and not in line to rule her own Territory like so many of Karla's other friends were going to be.

"I will miss you both," she said, playing with her Tiger Eye pendant.

Raven sent Cassidy a warm pulse of comfort. "It is no slight on you at all," she said. "If matters were different, I am certain she would welcome your help and your gifts. But this is something she wishes to do on her own."

She leaned in to give Cassidy another hug. "And we will miss you," she murmured.

Cassidy hugged her back, fighting to lock her own emotions away for right now since this was not the place to be anything but happy.

"I'll need to make sure we find a new mentor for me that you both approve of," she tried to tease lightly. Because Karla was more than her friend and fellow Queen, she had become her mentor. "Let's not even think about what will happen while you are gone and I start dating a male."

Raven leaned back and gave her a mock-stern look. "You will have to inform us of anyone expressing romantic interest in you immediately," she teased. "For we will have to determine if they are deserving of your affection."

And no hanky-panky.
