Library, Wednesday, All Day

Whether they had exhausted themselves over the week of break or they had simply noted Sholeh's somber mood today, the books were behaving themselves this afternoon. Some of the children's books were indulging in playdates, but they were quiet enough that Sholeh didn't have to interfere. Which meant that she could curl up behind the desk and page though books on cloning and genetic engineering (and a handy dictionary, where she could look up terms) in hopes to get a firmer idea of...things.

Yeah.

"Hey, been a while," Emily said as she walked in. It had taken her all this time to realize she didn't need an excuse to walk into the library and check on Sholeh, although Emily hated to admit some people were simply interesting enough she didn't need to have utter motives when it came to them.

Habit, really.

And while she did have a book in mind, Emily was quick on noticing the girl's mood. "Everything alright? That's a pretty heavy topic you got there."

Emily had a second to consider whether she wanted to tell Sholeh about her getting drunk because of her birthday, but then she decided the pity would not be welcomed. "It was...good, yes."

For a friend, huh? "Well, I'm far from an expert on the topic myself, but if there's anything I can clarify or help with then I will gladly do so; I could use feeling relatively useful now and then," Emily said with a smile, wondering if she had just got herself into something way beyond her studies.

"Okay, prepare for a pretty simplified and most likely lacking explanation." Emily blinked a couple of times, mentally kicking herself in the head for thinking she could deal with this. She could so not deal with this, but now she had to at least try.

"Okay, first off, twins are born at the same time and from the same mother, right? So they basically are born at the same time and everything," Emily said slowly. "To clone something is to grab the DNA of a thing- the DNA being sort of like the instructions about how something is suppose to me built, like a tree or an apple or a puppy or a human being- so they have the DNA of something, and at least in the case of animals they grab these instructions and put them inside of an egg of whatever species we're talking about; so they would grab human DNA and put it on an woman's egg once they have removed the DNA the egg itself has, alright?"

Emily took a much needed breath before continuing, also giving time for Sholeh to let everything sink in, hopefully. "So once you put the instructions inside of the egg, and if everything goes alright, then the egg grows and develops like it usually would after being, em, fertilized, and you get whatever you put the instructions for, I guess. Like another human being. And this human being is basically exactly like the one that got the same DNA initially; I honestly can't tell you if twins have the same DNA. Anyway, making a carbon copy of someone makes people wonder just what makes people, you know, people. Is like asking: Would this person be the exact same? Does a clone have a soul like the original one? And so on. It's a pretty tricky topic."

And now Emily was going to shut up because wow words.

How about a break for some food? Or... ice cream sundaes, anyway- although they did have strawberries, so they could very loosely be considered food. "Afternoon, Sholeh," Ulrik greeted, placing hers on the counter in front of her.
