Class met in the danger shop today, which was programmed to look like a deserted urban streetscene of chain-link fences and dilapidated brick buildings. It might look slightly familiar to some of the more pop culture-savvy students, but only some distant moans revealed anything was amiss.

The only slightly off notes were the shack in one corner of the lot, helpfully labelled COFFEE HUT, in which students might find an array of hot beverages, and one equally helpfully labeled ARMORY that held an array of handguns, flamethrowers, and some more ... esoteric weapons. (The Danger Shop kept popping a box of records in there, and Jack left it.)

"Welcome," he said, after the students were gathered but before they could get too creeped out. "This is our session on zombies. In historical terms, the antecedents are stories about magic users animating corpses for their own purposes. But in many worlds, that's -- let us say evolved -- into the concept or even the reality of zombiehood as a communicable disease, spread by biting or contact with the body fluids of the undead. Those are the ones you see at Caritas and in whatever horrible movie Syfy is showing this week. Most move very slowly but some are fast. They eat human flesh and organs, especially brains, and can keep going until until their heads are destroyed no matter how rotted their bodies appear."

He glanced nervously to the side as he realized the moaning was getting louder. "And today, you'll fight them. I know normally this class is all about tolerance, but some things can't be tolerated. Weapons are in the armory, headshots and fire work best to kill them, and if you get bitten you'll be locked out of the simulation for the rest of the class." A beat as the first zombie lumbered into view and ... began a dance routine. "Good luck."

Sholeh was trying to listen to the lecture, but the moaning was definitely making her nervous.

=It's okay, little sister,= Zeela soothed. =If this were real, I'd come into view and do all the ass-kicking for you.=

That made Sholeh feel better, at least until Zeela added, =Though we'd probably end up tripping and dying because of those ridiculous skirts you always wear.=

His bump of trouble making him feel uneasy, James managed to convince himself that nothing was amiss. He was almost successful.

Or declare yourself a pacifist and huddle by the coffee machines. WHATEVER.

Mod your own weapons and zombies.

Alec was actually relieved that they were fighting the zombies instead of talking about the pros and cons of being one. It had been too long since he'd fought something creepy. He'd just be kicking ass this period, thanks.

"Stay back!" Sholeh said sharply, trying to keep the zombies at bay with a weapon that she didn't much know how to use. But it was long, so it worked for poking, she guessed. "Don't come any closer!"

Yeah, she was pretty doomed.

Jack didn't seem too bothered by any of this, really. None of the zombies that approached him could get within the range of his staff without him freezing them solid, after all.

Sometimes, being Jack Frost was pretty useful.

Armed with a crossbow in hand and sword on his belt, James began attacking any undead creatures who ventured in his direction, memories of the carnage at Armengar held at bay.

If they aren't busy fighting dead things.

Jack took cover behind a low wall and fired precisely on some zombies who seemed to be getting too close to the more hapless students. He was a caring teacher.

Yeah, Stiles was going to stay hidden with a baseball bat. He didn't trust himself with a gun, even in a simulation.

Because sometimes you need a good bout of violence first thing in the morning.
