Improving Your Skills [Friday, 3rd Period]

Today, the class was back in a regular classroom again, and Clint was playing with a stack of papers on his desk as he watched everyone trickle in.

"Hey guys. I know today's the last day before break, so you're all probably a little anxious to get out of here. Today's class will be fairly painless, I promise," he said. "Unless you're planning on buying yourself a tropical island and spending your days living off lottery winnings, you're probably going to have to find something to do for a living, and that means having to deal with people who are in positions of power over you. Even the shadiest non-standard jobs have hierarchies, and no matter what you do, there might come a time when your boss, or your boss's boss--" or the shadowy people who liked to try to tell your boss what to do, not that Clint was going to go there "--will ask you to do something you don't want to do. Now, I'm not talking about coming in on a Saturday when you already had plans. I mean something that goes against your morals, or your gut instinct, and you're going to have to decide whether to follow the rules, or tell your superiors to shove it and do what you think is right. Now, I am living proof that you can tell people to shove it and live to tell the tale. Maybe unpleasantly for a little while, but to me, it's always been worth it. You're going to have to decide if going against what's asked of you is worth it to you, and learn how to say no."

"I have a quiz for you guys--not a real one, more of a personal thing--and then tell me, in whatever you see yourself doing in the future, can you think of anything you might be asked to do that you won't want to do? And do you think you'll be able to make your opinion heard when the time comes?"

Being told that he looked weird was kind of the norm for Sparkle. Didn't stop him from spiking his hair or wearing makeup, did it?

He circled C, quite happily. Screw the haters.

Emily marked C, as she honestly didn't care what others thought.

Kate wrote in D. Clearly my friend is on crack

Oh hey, something Maddie could sort of relate to straight off. Realistically... she circled B.

Oh, please. Gert circled C, nice and dark.

Natalie circled option C without hesitation.

She got told she was weird on a regular basis. She wouldn't care if her clothes added to that.

Stephanie chewed on her lower lip and shifted uncomfortably in her seat for a moment, her pencil hovering over B before she finally circled C.

She could've answered either, really. Just depended on her mood that day.

Sholeh circled B. Granted, she was still wearing the dresses that she knew people thought were weird, but those were a given kind of weird. She didn't want to try to buy something she thought was fashionable for this time and then mess it up.

Hanna circled A. Fashion was serious business to her.

Chaz scribbled down C and tried to figure out if he had ever managed to not look weird.

Oh yeah. This one was an A, hands-down. Sparkle, taking well to authority?

... Well, certain authority, maybe.

As if Emily was ever going to follow orders she didn't particularly approve of. It was A all the way.

Such an A, yes.

Hmm. Maddie didn't really like being told what to do, but she didn't have much experience at all bossing others around.

D- I don't know yet.

This time Gert wrote in D. Neither, she scrawled at the bottom. I prefer the non-hierarchical if it's all the same, thanks.

Good luck finding a job, Gert.
whenshewasnice: (It's a lifestyle.)

Again, Natalie circled C.

And replaced the exclamation mark with a period because there was no need to get that excited about it.

Re: Question 2

Depended on who was doing the telling, and under what circumstances. Stephanie circled C.

Re: Question 2

[identity profile] 3girls-1core.livejournal.com 2013-02-22 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
This time, Sholeh circled B. She liked having instructions to follow.

Besides, as the youngest of three, it probably made sense that she was the follower, not the leader.

Re: Question 2

[identity profile] new-it-girl.livejournal.com 2013-02-22 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Hanna went with C. It really did depend on who she was with and what the situation was.

Re: Question 2

[identity profile] notyetplatypus.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Chaz seriously wished there was a D. I like to do my own thing. He went for C since it seemed more flexible.
myownface: (OhGod Seriously?)

Re: Question 3

[personal profile] myownface 2013-02-22 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It was the word 'arrest' that set Sparkle off on this one. He wrinkled his nose, definitely not a fan.

C. C was getting circled by virtue of the fact that 'fuck the police' was not actually an option.
