Library, Thursday

Evan had been on a roll in the library with his usual assistant duties until he'd found himself completely stymied by one of the books he'd been wanting to re-shelve. No matter where he looked, he just couldn't find an author's name on it anywhere. Frowning, he'd taken it back to the desk and started to read it, and had soon found himself sucked into a romance novel, of all things.

The first chapter had started out pretty normally. A guy telling a girl that he loved her with all his heart. Chapter two had been more of the same, some 'always be with you' talk that made Evan wrinkle his nose a little.

... Chapter three had him blushing.

Around the fourth chapter, when the main couple in the story broke up and then got back together in a matter of a few pages, Evan gave up trying to find a clue as to the identity of the mystery author completely.

That was going to bug him, now. He was going to spend the rest of his shift wondering who wrote The Book Of Love.

"Thank you," she said, burying her own burning cheeks in the bouquet of flowers she held. "Happy Valentine's Day to you, too. I, umm, didn't get you a flower--"

As, y'know, she'd said before.

"--But the sorority had us making Valentines of our own, so I'm not completely empty-handed." With another shy smile, she passed him a Valentine (http://listphobia.com/wp-content/uploads/HomemadeValentinesDayCards.jpg)/

"You're welcome," Sholeh said, glad that he liked it. "It was the activity in sorority yesterday. I'm so glad it was, because otherwise I wouldn't have anything to offer anyone today. And it would be a poor thank you to you, and Ulrik, and Po, who sent me these flowers. I would have been greatly embarrassed."

"Good enough for you, maybe, but I still would have felt bad about it," Sholeh said, before shaking her head at his question. "Oh, no, we haven't anything like this. Well...maybe the vernal equinox? That holiday seems kind of close to this one. It's not a celebration of a particular patron saint of any kind, but it does celebrate, umm, relationships. And fertility. Good crops and all that."

Lambs. Spring plowing. Yearlings. Young people sneaking off to have sex. That kind of thing.
