Improving Your Skills [Friday, 3rd Period]

Clint was aware that there was something a little strange going on in town, so when the students arrived at the Danger Shop, they'd find it set up like an outdoor paintball field, with suits, guns, and purple and green paintballs.

Red vs. blue was just boring, honestly.

"Even the strongest, most power-laden people can sometimes find themselves up against an enemy that's stronger than themselves, and at that point, their only real option is to team up with others to deal with the bad guys together," Clint said. "The problem is, powerful people don't always know how to work well with others." Sorry Tony, but at least you were getting better at it? "Unless you're planning on winning the lottery and living on a yacht somewhere for the rest of your life, you're going to have to work with others, and knowing how to deal with differing personalities and still get the job done is an important skill." With a grin, Clint pointed to the paintball supplies. "Half of you are Team Purple, and half are Team Green. Get yourselves suited up, and may the best team win."

"Does this really need a strategy?"

Natalie wasn't the greatest team player.

"'Don't shoot your own team'?" Gert suggested, rolling her eyes. "Not that I think anyone actually needed the update, but he seems to think we did."

"Well, I think Clint's used to being on a team," Natalie said, with a mild shrug. "But it's a slightly differen thing from setting one up for a single class."

Sholeh shyly raised her hand. "I, umm, don't really know how to use these," she said softly. "Or what we're doing, exactly."

Ephemera didn't have paintball! Or guns!

...Maybe she could just stay out of the way?

"Have you ever shot a gun -" Kate glanced at the bustle and amended hastily "- or a bow or slingshot or something? It's all pretty much the same idea. We're trying to hit them with paint before they hit us."

Sholeh shook her head. "I've thrown rocks?" she offered, then added quickly. "But not at anybody!"

Because that would be dangerous!

"...Is there a manual I could read?"

"...before we start? Probably not. You can try some test shots?" Kate said, trying to think of a way to make this work. "What if we got you up on top of something, and you can try to shoot people from there without being in the open."

That was a strategy Kate often liked.

"And then I would have something to hide behind, too," Sholeh said, reading between what she figured were the lines. "So I don't get myself into too much trouble."

=Buck up, kiddo. I'll do what I can to help you out. This sounds like fun!=

"Would you mind showing me how to use it?" she asked. "Otherwise, I'm just going to try to get the paintballs out and just throw them at people."

Gert barely refrained from rolling her eyes, but did shoot a look Kate's way before taking out her own paintball gun to show Sholeh. "Put your finger there and pull back," she said, indicating the trigger. "It's called a trigger. The paint comes out of here-" she indicated the muzzle- "so you want to keep that part pointed at the other team."

"So, just...peer and pull?" Sholeh asked, looking the gun over. "Sounds easy enough."

She just had to worry about aiming! And not messing up. As one did.

"While trying not to get hit," Natalie added, helpfully. Probably. "But that's pretty much it, yes."

"Also not shooting anyone's eye out," Kate said. "But there's masks to help with that."
