Cheerleading Tryouts - The Gym, Friday After Classes

Loki was more than a bit excited to start this club up. Because it would grant him power over people. As Student Council did very little to allow him to boss people around other than for dances.

So...

"Greetings, those who wish to become cheerleaders! I am Loki and this is Jessica. We will be judging you today." Judging you so much.

"We may not know the first thing about cheerleading, but it's not like that kept us from restarting the squad in the first place," Jessica said, doing her best to set the bar low. "We also only have one sports team, and I'm not even sure who they play against. But again, not stopping us. Such is the power of cheerleading." She sounded very convinced.

They were a former genocidal villain and the cross-gender clone of Spider-Man. They could do anything. "It is lacrosse. There are sticks," Loki informed her helpfully. "I have learned from Wikipedia, that this involves cheering and gymnastics. So, we ask that you give us an example of both things."

Try it in iambic pentameter. He dared you.

"If you want to use pom-poms for either portion, we found the squad's old equipment and dusted it off, so you don't have to worry about making yourself sneeze in the middle of spelling something," Jessica said. "Unless you're allergic to spelling, in which case what are you even doing in a school?"

"...right." Loki was judging your quips in preparation of the potential cheerleaders, Jessica. "So, we hope to see your best. And if you did not sign up at the club fair, we are still taking all those who are interested."

It's all gym-like.

There was still a very real chance that Gert was going to back out of this, but she was here, arms crossed over her chest as she glared at the part of the gym where she assumed tryouts were going to happen. She wasn't entirely aware of how she'd gotten herself into this, but maybe glaring would solve the situation.

"You look all bright-eyed and ready to cheer," Sparkle noted, leaning back against the bleachers with a grin on his face, hands in his pockets. "You actually want to be here, girl?"

Sparkle was a pro at singling out people who didn't actually want to be involved.

"No." Good spotting, Sparkle! "But the dorms are freezing and I thought this would be kind of a deconstruction of cheerleading crap."

...Well, kind of.

"What, do you?"

"Oh, you know," Sparkle replied, smirking, "any excuse to yell obscenities at the lacrosse team while wearing a tiny, flippy skirt."

Yes, he was aware that the guys' uniform didn't involve a skirt.

Gert raised one eyebrow, but didn't comment. "You might be out of luck," she said dryly. "I made a case for abolishing the tiny skirts. But I guess if I don't try out, it doesn't matter what you guys wear."

"Hey, I can get over a lack of skirts, too. Pretty sure they'd chase me off the field if I did a cartwheel wearing one of those things, you know? Pants. Pants are good too."

He'd totally rock a skirt, shut up.

"Why'd you come if you don't wanna be on the team?"

"Not like I'd judge you for breaking the uniform, if there even is one," Gert offered. "The less monotonous and cultish they can make this inane ritual of worshipping athletes, the better."

Wow, Gert, don't hold back.

In response to his other question, she shrugged. "I think cheerleading is idiotic, but I know Jessica and she doesn't seem like a moron," she said. "I was thinking maybe this incarnation of the cult might not be that bad."

"Yeah, Jessica doesn't seem to be half bad," Sparkle mused, glancing her way. "Good head on her shoulders, from what I can tell."

From what he could tell by the way she thought he was nuts when he'd stuck his hand on a stove element. You know, like he was a lunatic or something.

He'd been fireproof!

"Dunno about the little guy, though."

"He's not that bad." Gert uncrossed her arms, felt a little weird, and then re-crossed them. "I don't know why he's doing this, but whatever."

"Probably passes the time. Or maybe he likes wearing tiny skirts, too."

That... probably wasn't the reason, Sparkle.

"I'd buy it," Gert said. This was a guy who carried around a scepter and sometimes birthed horses, after all. "Whatever his deal is, it doesn't look like he's doing any of the legwork."

So... she had to make a decision based on the other, non-Loki factors.

"See, so he needs people like us out there, making him look good," Sparkle decided, laughing. "You know, in pants or whatever."

Minako was SO ready for this, and was starting to bounce in place as she waited.

It wasn't that Maddie was here to try out or anything. She was definitely not the cheerleading type. But she was sort of curious as to how this sort of thing worked here, so she found a spot to sit and watch, figuring that a decade plus of blending in at school stuff meant no one would care that she was there.

"Hey, Maddie," Jessica said, walking over. "I don't remember seeing your name on the list from the fair. Interested in trying out?"

"Oh, I'm not really a cheerleader," Maddie said with a smile. "I just wanted to check things out, you know? I didn't know you were one."

"In a non-crazy world, I'm not. But we're in a world where Loki wanted someone to help him start a cheer squad, so we're knee-deep in crazy," Jessica said. "In a world like this, anyone can be a cheerleader."

Speaking of which...

"Loki's a cheerleader," Maddie said. "Loki Loki?"

"Norse God of Mischief Loki, yes," Jessica said, nodding her head in his direction. "He seems to be playing with his phone and leaving the actual work to me, but... well, that's to be expected, I guess."

"Does that mean you're going to be the only one cheering?" Maddie wondered.

"Nah. A few people signed up. Only one of whom might not actually do real cheering, which I still consider a win," Jessica said. "But if this trainwreck is piquing your interest at all, we could always use another person."

"The trainwrecky part kind of does, yeah," she admitted. "Do I actually have to try out?"

It was easier on the ego to potentially make an idiot of yourself in a group, it really was.

"You do. But honestly, you don't have to do too much," Jessica said. "When Gert signed up, she pretty much told me that she wasn't going to do any athletics or cheering and I'm pretty sure she's making the squad."

"It's just, I wasn't prepared for this or anything?"

Her tryout would be a 'go team' if she had to do it.
