Loki was more than a bit excited to start this club up. Because it would grant him power over people. As Student Council did very little to allow him to boss people around other than for dances.

"Greetings, those who wish to become cheerleaders! I am Loki and this is Jessica. We will be judging you today." Judging you so much.

"We may not know the first thing about cheerleading, but it's not like that kept us from restarting the squad in the first place," Jessica said, doing her best to set the bar low. "We also only have one sports team, and I'm not even sure who they play against. But again, not stopping us. Such is the power of cheerleading." She sounded very convinced.

They were a former genocidal villain and the cross-gender clone of Spider-Man. They could do anything. "It is lacrosse. There are sticks," Loki informed her helpfully. "I have learned from Wikipedia, that this involves cheering and gymnastics. So, we ask that you give us an example of both things."

Try it in iambic pentameter. He dared you.

"If you want to use pom-poms for either portion, we found the squad's old equipment and dusted it off, so you don't have to worry about making yourself sneeze in the middle of spelling something," Jessica said. "Unless you're allergic to spelling, in which case what are you even doing in a school?"

"...right." Loki was judging your quips in preparation of the potential cheerleaders, Jessica. "So, we hope to see your best. And if you did not sign up at the club fair, we are still taking all those who are interested."

"You look all bright-eyed and ready to cheer," Sparkle noted, leaning back against the bleachers with a grin on his face, hands in his pockets. "You actually want to be here, girl?"

Sparkle was a pro at singling out people who didn't actually want to be involved.

"No." Good spotting, Sparkle! "But the dorms are freezing and I thought this would be kind of a deconstruction of cheerleading crap."

...Well, kind of.

"What, do you?"

"Oh, you know," Sparkle replied, smirking, "any excuse to yell obscenities at the lacrosse team while wearing a tiny, flippy skirt."

Yes, he was aware that the guys' uniform didn't involve a skirt.

Gert raised one eyebrow, but didn't comment. "You might be out of luck," she said dryly. "I made a case for abolishing the tiny skirts. But I guess if I don't try out, it doesn't matter what you guys wear."

"Hey, I can get over a lack of skirts, too. Pretty sure they'd chase me off the field if I did a cartwheel wearing one of those things, you know? Pants. Pants are good too."

He'd totally rock a skirt, shut up.

"Why'd you come if you don't wanna be on the team?"

"Not like I'd judge you for breaking the uniform, if there even is one," Gert offered. "The less monotonous and cultish they can make this inane ritual of worshipping athletes, the better."

Wow, Gert, don't hold back.

In response to his other question, she shrugged. "I think cheerleading is idiotic, but I know Jessica and she doesn't seem like a moron," she said. "I was thinking maybe this incarnation of the cult might not be that bad."

"Yeah, Jessica doesn't seem to be half bad," Sparkle mused, glancing her way. "Good head on her shoulders, from what I can tell."

From what he could tell by the way she thought he was nuts when he'd stuck his hand on a stove element. You know, like he was a lunatic or something.

He'd been fireproof!

"Dunno about the little guy, though."

"He's not that bad." Gert uncrossed her arms, felt a little weird, and then re-crossed them. "I don't know why he's doing this, but whatever."

"Probably passes the time. Or maybe he likes wearing tiny skirts, too."

That... probably wasn't the reason, Sparkle.

"I'd buy it," Gert said. This was a guy who carried around a scepter and sometimes birthed horses, after all. "Whatever his deal is, it doesn't look like he's doing any of the legwork."

So... she had to make a decision based on the other, non-Loki factors.

"See, so he needs people like us out there, making him look good," Sparkle decided, laughing. "You know, in pants or whatever."

"Oh yeah," Gert drawled. "I'll totally contribute there. You're, like, so right."

She rolled her eyes. "I'm starting to get the feeling this idea was stupid."

"What'll be stupid is if they actually let me on the team," Sparkle offered with a shrug. He stepped forward, making to poke her in the ribs, but dropping his hand at the last moment. "Could be fun, though. I mean, you showed up in the first place, must be a reason for that."

"You think?" Well, he was here, wasn't he? "I don't know. The last thing I want is some cliquey cult after the month I've had. ...Not that you look like you'd stand for that crap."

Please, Gert. Excuse Sparkle for just flat-out laughing at the suggestion for a minute or two. It was kind of absurd.

"Are you kidding? Oh, that's rich. Trust me, girl, I am the last person you'll find playing cheer squad snob brigade. Not that I can't play snob if I want to."

He put his nose up in the air and affected a posh air as he spoke.

"Oh honey I can't believe what that chick is wearing." He gave his hands a flutter. "Why, I think we might catch a bad case of the nerd if we're seen around their chess club or something. Oh. My. God."

And then he was laughing again.

Gert tried not to snicker, which meant that the arched eyebrow and trace of a smirk would have to speak for themselves. "Make you a deal," she said after Sparkle's laughter died down a bit. "I'll try out, but if this is a bunch of snobby assholes like at any other school in the world, you owe me lunch or something. And if it's not, vice versa."

"I'll do anything for a free lunch," Sparkle decided, smirking. "Drinks at Caritas, though. They have peanuts at the bar, that's like food."

He was easily pleased, see?

"You're on."

"After you," Gert smirked, gesturing for Sparkle to go ahead. "Be careful cheering, I hear they're real sticklers for correct spelling on these teams."

"F-U-K-K-I-N eh, see how much I care," Sparkle quipped, and then added, mostly for the sake of the cadence of his statement, "hooray?"

It was a work in progress.

"Catch you on the flipside, giggles. Knock 'em dead."

"Same to you." And if he bombed it, she could always sneak out the back.
