Improving Your Skills [Friday, 3rd Period]

When the students arrived today, they'd find the Danger Shop set up with a bunch of targets, training dummies, and a pile of moddable weapons.

"It seems like a lot of folks at this school, and in town, come from kind of dangerous places," Clint said. "Honing a skill requires time, which requires staying alive, and that isn't always a luxury. Today, I want to see how well you guys can handle weapons to defend yourselves, and don't worry if the answer is 'not all that well' because everyone's got to start somewhere. If you've already had some training in this area, and you want to spar with each other, go right ahead because you won't really hurt anyone. Supposedly." It wasn't that Clint didn't have faith in technology, but that part of the Danger Shop's settings still had him a little worried.

Sparkle really wouldn't call his performance with a bow here today 'showing off.' Not by a long shot. He was still more or less a beginner, and that showed, if not in his form exactly, then by how anal he was about making sure that his form was right.

There were people. They could see him.

Eventually he'd even actually shoot. Honest.

"You look great," Kate said quietly so as not to startle him. "But you have to actually release the arrow." Her tone - and her words - were meant to be encouraging.

"I'm... working my way up to that," Sparkle replied, glancing sideways at the girl before looking back at the target. "You know... making sure the conditions are right, that sort of thing."

It... wasn't like there was wind in here or anything, Sparks.

She nodded. "On one hand, have to make sure the shot is worth taking...on the other, you'll miss every shot you don't take."

Huh, she'd heard that somewhere.

"You, uh, get that off a motivational poster or something?"

It sounded like that sort of saying, was all, and Sparkle was not exactly used to getting encouraging speeches, particularly from people he didn't know. Not unless they were trying to sell something, anyway.

"Well, it was either that or tell you to stop overthinking it, ya doof," Kate joked. "Thought I'd work up to that one."

Well. Kate had already been training today, but that didn't mean she wasn't ready to shoot some more.

First she spent a stupid long time choosing a bow - eventually going with one of the least awesome because, hey, she could still shoot it, but it'd suck to have someone else get frustrated.

Then she shot a quiverfull of arrows into the bullseye of the farthest target. Cause why not.

Emily really didn't have neither be training nor the patience to use a bow. It was a good thing there were a couple of handguns on the pile. The bow/gun ratio was noticed though; apparently there was a bias going. Or something.

She didn't really care though; soon after Emily was putting some bullets into human-shaped targets, and while she wasn't being extremely deadly she was pretty sure she had put all the shots into parts that had points so far.

William spent a moment internally debating whether to go for the bow, which he'd never used before, or the handgun, which he was reasonably familiar with.

In the end, the fact that this was likely one of the only chances he'd get to use a bow was the reason why he didn't go for it. It had been a while since his last lesson at the shooting range, but muscle memory kicked in after the first couple shots.

Hitting things up though, Emily was more comfortable doing that.

Again, she wasn't precisely the best fighter; but she had a lot of energy she had been bottling up ready to go. Those dummies wouldn't know what hit them.

Stiles had absolutely no weapons skills whatsoever. Which the teacher probably knew since he had saved Stiles twice. So he would be by the dummies.

He wasn't even hitting them, he was just kind of zoning out.

Gert had planned to just sit around sulking, but when she saw someone who seemed just as out-of-place in this class as she was, she figured she might as well commiserate.

"Weapons aren't your forte either, huh?"

And because Stiles had been zoning out he had no idea what Gert said. He at least knew he was being spoken to. "Uh what?"

"Right," Stiles said with a nod. "It's not that I don't want to be it's just my weird stuff only started like five months ago so I haven't really found the time."

Gert nodded. "And I figure my dinosaur's enough of a weapon for me without me having to risk tripping while holding a sword or something," she said. "'Cause I'd probably do that and it'd be messy."

Sholeh was just going to stand in front of the dummies a little helplessly. She was hardly dressed for sparring as it was.

::I don't know how to do this,:: she sulked. ::Can't I go read a book about this or something?::

=No,= Zeela snapped. =Now make a fist and punch.=

"Ow!"

=Thumb on the outside, nit.=

Minako looked at the training dummies and made a face. "Look, just because I'm Japanese does not mean I'm a ninja!" she sulked, folding her arms.

She was a Sailor Senshi, dammit. Not a ninja.

"I'm in Vollyeball Club, not Kendo!"

Hanna didn't exactly have shooting skills, and she was certain she wasn't ready for sparring. Hitting things, though? She could do that.

Besides, one never knew when dummies might attack, right?

Kate could train with her bow on her own, but sparring was a different matter. And even if she wasn't doing the superhero thing anymore, she wanted to keep in shape.

So she was there to give it a go if anyone wanted a partner.

Formal sparring wasn't something William had much experience with, but he'd put his jacket aside and had loosened his tie, willing to engage in a boxing match should anyone care to.
