Improving Your Skills [Friday, 3rd Period]

When the students arrived today, they'd find the Danger Shop set up with a bunch of targets, training dummies, and a pile of moddable weapons.

"It seems like a lot of folks at this school, and in town, come from kind of dangerous places," Clint said. "Honing a skill requires time, which requires staying alive, and that isn't always a luxury. Today, I want to see how well you guys can handle weapons to defend yourselves, and don't worry if the answer is 'not all that well' because everyone's got to start somewhere. If you've already had some training in this area, and you want to spar with each other, go right ahead because you won't really hurt anyone. Supposedly." It wasn't that Clint didn't have faith in technology, but that part of the Danger Shop's settings still had him a little worried.

"Guessing you're not a weapons person," Gert repeated. "Right? Me neither."

"Right," Stiles said with a nod. "It's not that I don't want to be it's just my weird stuff only started like five months ago so I haven't really found the time."

Gert nodded. "And I figure my dinosaur's enough of a weapon for me without me having to risk tripping while holding a sword or something," she said. "'Cause I'd probably do that and it'd be messy."

"Wise decision," Stiles said. "I'm also not sure what kind of weapon would really be me, you know? Arrows are out 'cause I almost took my friend's head off with that. Swords seem to require upper body strength that I'm not willing to work for. I don't know, it's a tough decision."

"I'd definitely recommend a pet with sharp teeth as a first resort," Gert shared. "Or if you really want to stick with a pointy object, maybe try a lightweight mace. By far the most badass weapon in all of history, and they're probably not that hard to throw."

"I'm pretty sure my friends won't let me have a mace." He could see why they would have reservations about the whole thing. "I do have the pets with sharp teeth thing covered though. Doesn't really tend to help."

"If those are the werewolves you mentioned, I'm not sure they count," Gert reasoned. "Don't they only have sharp teeth like one night a month? It's kind of inconvenient if you're going to get attacked regularly."

Puppy Joe, on the other hand... now there was a ruthless guard dog.

"They have sharp teeth and claws all year 'round, actually," Stiles said. "The full moon just makes them more likely to use them."

"Huh," Gert said, tilting her head slightly at that. "Guess Wendy the Werewolf Stalker got it wrong. Wouldn't be the first time." Because she'd met a vampire back home that had been ridiculously hard to kill, too. "I'd still recommend an actual animal instead of a person who's temporarily in a different form, though, if you want my opinion."

"Tempting, but I'd feel terrible if Old Lace got taken out by a werewolf." Though now he was gonna ask Derek his opinion on the outcome of a werewolf versus dinosaur fight.

"I'm pretty sure Old Lace could take out a werewolf," Gert informed him, smirking. "Anyway, cool thing about having a telepathic link to her?" she added with a tap to the side of her head. "She always gets out of the way when I tell her to."

So she was pretty much inviting herself to this hypothetical adventure, yeah.

Stiles had his doubts about that, but he wasn't about to mention it. "Well that's useful. It'd be nice to have a psychic link to Scott but I'd probably go nuts from all the thoughts about his ex-girlfriend."

Stiles was probably right to have his doubts, really. Unless his adventures involved kanimas, because it seemed like Old Lace was pretty good at attacking those.

"I don't even know him and it sounds like a gateway to excessive TMI," Gert agreed. "If he's anything like my friend Chase, it'd be half naked girls, half jokes about bodily functions."

And lacrosse! Can't forget that.
