Library, Wednesday, All Day

Sholeh had come into work today humming. Even Professor Priest's lecture on demons hadn't been able to shake her good mood. Her birthday had been wonderful, Po being out with Yeul had meant there was time for her sisters to come out and enjoy their brownies, and the book she'd borrowed to read had been an excellent choice. In short, nothing could ruin her excellent mood.

Or so she thought until she walked into the library and saw water sheeting down from the ceiling. Panicking, she yanked off her petticoats, trying to sop up the water before it ruined any of the books. A few seconds later, the waterfall stopped and Sholeh nearly went limp with relief when she saw that it had missed all of the nearby books.

She'd no more thought that than another downpour started, this time next to the circulation desk.

That set up the pattern for the afternoon. Water would start cascading from the ceiling, Sholeh would dash over and try to soak it up, it would stop, she'd relax for a bit, and then the flooding would start somewhere else.

At least the books were spared?

Ulrik had stopped by J,GoB to pick up something particularly special, given Sholeh's recent birthday and all. Underneath the pastry shop box, he was also carrying a wrapped box, because birthdays meant presents.

"Happy belated- GAH!" Ulrik managed to dive out of the way of a downpour just in time to avoid the disaster that would have been soggy lemon-strawberry cake.

"That sounds unpleasant," Ulrik noted. "Are you cold?" he asked, concerned. He was very pointedly not mentioning the fact that she was in her underwear, yes.

"Understandably," he said, shrugging out of his sweater and handing it over. "I brought cake, perhaps that might cheer you up, some?"

"I've more siblings than I have fingers," Ulrik pointed out. "I've learned to withstand the occasional tongue-lashing. And I wanted to get you something to celebrate your birthday, as I'm pretty sure the occassion is supposed to warrant people giving you presents, and yesterday it rather seemed to be the other way around."

"I wanted to, though!" Ulrik assured her. "I've never really had the sort of friends I could buy gifts for, before." And Baldur wasn't really a friend so much as a sidekick, really. "The cake isn't all, either," there was also the matter of the wrapped package he'd brought.

"Thank you will suffice," Ulrik grinned. "I would've procured gifts for your sisters, as well, just to be fair, but I realized that might be a bit presumptuous of me, given that I haven't truly gotten to know them yet." Although he'd briefly considered buying something from the clothing shop for Zhahar, because he could at times be something of a smartass. The package for Sholeh, however, was perhaps not surprisingly about the size and shape of a book (http://www.amazon.com/Lies-My-Teacher-Told-Everything/dp/0743296281), wrapped a little messily in brightly coloured paper.

"Well," he said, looking a little sheepish. "It's more like I meant to? But then I realized I didn't quite know enough about what either of them would like." But give him some time and he'd be sure to come up with something!
