Improving Your Skills [Friday, 3rd Period]

Clint had left a handwavey note to get everyone to come to the computer lab today, and was only halfway spinning around in the chair at the front of the room.

Come on, spinny chairs were fun!

"A lot of people say the first step to getting better at something is to practice, but practicing won't do you any good if you're not starting out right," he said, once everyone was settled. "Now, I was lucky enough to find someone who was willing to teach me archery, and there are probably people on this island who could teach some of you some amazing skills. But, we also have this great thing called the internet, and in between the cat macros and social whatever, there are websites and sometimes even videos about how to do just about anything. What I want you to do today is take a look online and see if you can find someone or something that can teach you how to get better at what it is you want to get better at." That sentence had made more sense in his head, really.

Gert caught Chaz's reflection in the computer screen and smirked, turning to face him. "Learn Latin quickly dot com," she shared. "It's kind of slow going, but it's not bad."

Chaz mentally cursed the winter that caused his instant blush to be very visible on his currently pale skin. "Thanks. I was looking for something like that." He typed the address in. "And Latin is really useful since it's in every language, right?"
arsenicmauls: (neu: sitting)

"All the Romance languages, at least," Gert agreed. "Good luck finding it in Arabic or something, but Spanish, Portuguese, French, any of those, Latin's your girl."

Chaz was just going to sit here and do his impersonation of a tomato. "Yeah, that. Do you speak any other language?"
arsenicmauls: (neg: arms crossed)

Gert shrugged. "Some Spanish from school. Half-decent Hebrew. You?"

"Spanish, too." Chaz said with a jerk of his head that was almost a nod. "No Hebrew, sorry." His lips quirked up into a smile.
arsenicmauls: (conv: that went well)

"Don't be, it's a total pain to learn," Gert assured him. "Even Latin is easier."

Chaz nodded even as his mun disagreed. "How did you end up learning Hebrew?" The Spanish he figured was obvious.
arsenicmauls: (conv: nice to meet you)

"Hebrew school once a week for seven years," Gert sighed. "Right up until the world's stuffiest Bat Mitzvah. It was three years ago, but some of it stuck."
