Improving Your Skills [Friday, 3rd Period]

Clint had left a handwavey note to get everyone to come to the computer lab today, and was only halfway spinning around in the chair at the front of the room.

Come on, spinny chairs were fun!

"A lot of people say the first step to getting better at something is to practice, but practicing won't do you any good if you're not starting out right," he said, once everyone was settled. "Now, I was lucky enough to find someone who was willing to teach me archery, and there are probably people on this island who could teach some of you some amazing skills. But, we also have this great thing called the internet, and in between the cat macros and social whatever, there are websites and sometimes even videos about how to do just about anything. What I want you to do today is take a look online and see if you can find someone or something that can teach you how to get better at what it is you want to get better at." That sentence had made more sense in his head, really.

Natalie was looking up things about how to care for foxes.

What? With the morning she'd had, it was a very current interst of hers. Even if none of the information actually pertained to foxes who were usually political advisors to Haiti.

Maddie still hadn't figured out what she was good at, or what she really wanted to be good at. She did Google "getting out of trouble" to see if some enterprising young nerd had managed to get the meta for the Ghostbusters on the first page of results (they hadn't- fail, internet), but then managed to not get caught in an endless loop of YouTube videos on the subject by trying to find out if there was any news on the people from her old school since she hadn't talked to anyone in a week.

Technically, still sort of doing the assignment.

Po was simply trying to master typing. He'd never had to cultivate skills like this, before, and thus once he managed to get to Google, he also backspaced and found himself on the page before.

Stephanie was not any kind of computer whiz; you didn't pick up geek skills from osmosis, because god knew she'd have done that by now if it were possible. If she were, she'd have done something elaborate to run searches on the stuff she really wanted to research, like forensics and criminal databases, in the background while her screen displayed something innocuous like pictures of kittens or the history of the Statue of Liberty.

This not being the case, well . . . she'd ended up on a YouTube playlist of cat videos. Oops.

Something Sparkle wanted to learn? How to be freaking invisible. Barring that, since he didn't have superpowers or anything, he was looking up websites to help him up his ninja skills.

The ones he really didn't have. But wouldn't it be sweet to be able to make proper use of the cover of night once he got back to Toronto?

Kate was indeed wearing purple. But since a large percentage of her wardrobe was purple, that wasn't terribly surprising.
