Spring 2013 Club Fair, Gym, Friday Afternoon

Jackson couldn't believe he was here again. At some Maryland boarding school, and some... quaint little freaking club fair, heading a lacrosse group that was really his own personal stress relief than any kind of an actual team.

But he was here again. And his club was listed on the club schedule. Guess this was really happening. Again.

And this time, they even had cheerleaders.

Jackson sighed and went to set up his table.

[ocd up! FAIR AWAY!]

"Uh huh," Jeremy replied with an easy smile. Slouching in his chair because why not? "Although we're a bit more free-form these days than that. You can totally find your own way of expressing apathy."

"Huh," Bay said, musing it over. "But nothing too fancy, right? 'Cause putting on a whole apathy interpretive dance does not seem that apathetic to me."

Smiling, she added, "I'm Bay. Newish girl."

"Jeremy," Jeremy replied, smile widening. "Totally not new. Been here for two years, pretty much a veteran." And still pretty untouched by most of the weird. Funny how that worked. "And no interpretive dance. I prefer zoning out."

"I'm still all impressed people last here," Bay told him. "... not that I've seen anything that weird yet, besides the pet dinosaur, but people keep making this place sound like the Weird Hall of Fame."

She brushed her hair back. "I can zone out. Or doodle. Is doodling apathetic enough?"

"... There's a pet dinosaur?"

Jeremy was easily distracted. It was best to get that established straight away.

"Uh, I mean, doodling's fine! Apathy Club don't judge. Each to their own, right?"

"You haven't seen him yet?" Old Lace was a her, but whatever. "The girl over there with the purple hair owns him. He's like seven feet tall with big claws. It's pretty rocking."

"I bet." He was really going to have to make an effort to meet this dinosaur now. "That's almost as cool as all the people who come from like, space and the future and stuff."

"I keep hearing about that," Bay told him. "My big sister's a witch or something. Makes being a normal girl from Kansas City seem extra-boring."

Not that she precisely minded being boring after the year she'd had.

"Aww, I'm sure you're not boring!" Jeremy told her. Because he was the kind of guy who said these kinds of things, and meant them.

He also couldn't point out Kansas on a map but that was beside the point. "Fandom doesn't really do boring. Not even in the students."
justbeingbay: ([pos] smiling with hair up)

"Maybe I'm the exception," Bay told him, though she was smiling. She didn't really think she was boring at all. "What's your not-boring thing?"
stars_and_money: (Even smiling can be lazy.)

"Well..." Jeremy pretended to look thoughtful. "I prefer to think of myself as kind of all-around maximum, you know? But for something specific, my family owns half of Manhattan?"

Okay, so even two years at Fandom hadn't made him think there was any other way to pinpoint his specialness than money.

Bay did not look impressed.

"So basically you're like the guys at my old school except with even more money."

But then, her dad was a former baseball player who owned car washes, so it wasn't like she came up from the mean streets herself.
stars_and_money: (... Huh?)

But did the guys at his old school have such an adorable confused look?

"... Huh?"

No, seriously. He was clearly missing something here. Chalk it up to his skewed perception of reality where he was either around rich people or in Fandom.

Awwwww, he was like a puppy! Like a not-too-bright, rich puppy!

"The school I went to since I was five," she explained, "is where all the rich people in KC send their kids. My dad owns car washes. I mean, yay money, it's just not" -- her lips quirked -- "quite in the same realm of awesome as a dinosaur."

Jeremy pointed a finger at her.

"No," he agreed, "but if they were available where I'm from, I could buy a dinosaur. Although my parents would probably make me give it to a zoo..."

"But you could visit it," Bay offered, because the way he pointed was actually pretty cute. "Maybe get people to sew special dinosaur designer clothes so it didn't get cold in the winter."

Maybe that was how Jeremy was special: he was so puppy-like and clueless that it crossed straight into endearing.

"Ido know a lot of designers who'd probably be willing to experiment. Well, my sister does, anyway. There'd be dinosaur-inspired collections."

"Maybe knitted tail-warmers," Bay suggested thoughtfully. "And horn protectors. That .... seems like it could be a thing."
