After talking to Ulrik and Sparkle yesterday and her big confession that kind of...wasn't...Sholeh was starting to really question the need for secrecy and silence on the island. On the one hand, they were her friends--of course they were going to give her the benefit of the doubt. On the other hand, even being three-in-one didn't make her the weirdest person on the island.

There was the talking pony for one.

Perhaps sensing her contemplation, the books were mostly behaving themselves today. That was nice.

"Imagine seeing you here," Po greeted her with a crooked smile. "I somehow didn't know you worked here, dearest roommate."

It was a good thing that Zhahar had poked her when Po had come in, or there would have been an undignified squawk as Sholeh abruptly snapped out of her thoughts. As it was, she did start a bit and then offer him a hasty smile. And a blush for the 'dearest roommate' comment. "I do!" she said. "As of last semester. I love books, so it seemed to make sense..."

Po could probably guess the liking books part. Her side was tidy, which meant that the books were neatly stacked everywhere.

"Are you here because you need something?" Wait, did that sound rude? She wasn't trying to hurry him out! "I mean, you didn't know I was working here, so you didn't come to see me, though you're always welcome to! Err, not that you have to..."

*Sholeh, pet, you're babbling,* Zhahar reminded.

And this was what you got for being cute and calling Sholeh 'dearest.' You got babbled at.

Po's grin grew a little less cocky and a little more sympathetic. She was downright adorable when she babbled -- it was a charming change from the girls at home. "I actually wanted to look at some maps," he admitted. "I realized yesterday that I know all of nothing about the realm in which we live."

It was probably for the best that only one of them could hear thoughts about themselves. Because Sholeh would have just ended up babbling harder if she'd heard that and then possibly passed out from lack of air.

Instead, she managed to get a bit of her composure back. "Oh!" she said, snapping her fingers. "You know, you're not the first person to ask something like that. I should make a display for people who come from different places."

Coming out from behind the desk, she shot Po a smile and gestured to him to follow. "Maps are this way. We have a bunch, so we can look up pretty much whatever scale you want."

"Did you know that this country is the beard of another country?" Po asked as he trailed after her. "Toby told me so last night. I can't believe that's true, so I'll have to see for myself."

It was kind of true.

Sholeh laughed at that. "I think Sparkled said something like that once, after hearing his country called this country's hat. Then he got all huffy and started talking about syrup made from corn and lack of proper food."

Sparkle had a lot of opinions. A lot. Few of them made sense to Sholeh, though.

The maps were all behaving themselves, which was a pleasant surprise, so Sholeh had no problems pulling out a map of the Western Hemisphere. "This is the country we're in," she said, pointing to the United States. "Somewhere over here."

'Over here' being the Eastern Seaboard. Look, she wasn't from around here, either.

"Hmm." Po peered closely at the map, frowning slightly. "Then that must be the supposed hat, where Toby and your Sparkle are from," he decided, gesturing to Canada. "This is far, far larger than my world, I think. Or perhaps the maps are scaled differently." He doubted it, though.

"This is only half the world," Sholeh said, nodding. No one knew how big Ephemera was, but this world was much larger than any single piece. "I can dig up maps of the other half, too, if you want to see it all at once."

She looked back at North America and frowned. "Shouldn't Mexico be the beard? It's the lowest."

"Maybe Mexico is the shirt," Po tried. "And the United States is the beard, and Canada is the hat? None of it looks much like any of those things."

Toby. This was all your fault.

"If anything, Mexico might kind of be a necklace? Or maybe pants?" Sholeh suggested, scrunching up her face and tilting her head to the side. "Do people from this world really try to figure out what part of their wardrobe the countries resemble?"

THIS WORLD. SHOLEH DID NOT GET YOU.

"I hope not. I've never done such a thing with Lienid or the rest of the Seven Kingdoms," Po mused. "Perhaps they're less occupied here."

"Everything is a lot easier here," Sholeh said, a touch wistfully. "The lights, hot water almost instantly, food in abundance...no wonder they have time to argue about countries and wardrobes."

"I watched a presentation on the television yesterday about a special pillow one might order," Po told her. "They make things so complicated. It went on for an hour, and -- pillows at home are very simple, I think."

"...What's so complicated about a pillow?" Sholeh asked, not utterly confused. "Fabric. Feathers. You're done."
