Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There was the bonfire for everyone who thought Maryland in January was a little too cool for their taste, as well as the moddable warm food and drinks, and chairs and tables in the school colors of blue and gold. Some tables were also set a little further away from the crowds.

Because there were always people who preferred the fringes.

Bay blinked at him for a couple moments. "He's weird, but dude, I'm just happy he's gay," she said. "It makes me worry way less that he'll get weird about my bras. No offense."

Billy snickered. "None taken. And he won't be excited about your bras or anything. He's just... weird is a good word. But he's a good person, he really is. Sometimes he just doesn't think before he speaks and... he's trying really hard to learn. I didn't want you to feel like he was being weird 'cause you're new or anything. This is a really good place."

"Where the squirrels take notes on you?" Bay said, hoping she had it right from Karla. And that Karla hadn't been randomly making things up. "I appreciate the thought, but don't worry about him. I wanted to get away from home, and I guess I ... got really away."

"Would you believe me if I said you get used to the squirrels?" Billy asked. "I take it home's a bit more normal?"

"Way more normal," Bay confirmed. "Like, I dated a deaf guy who signed for a while and people thought that was a little weird. I am literally not in Kansas anymore."

The nice thing about growing up in Mission Hills was that she could say that and mean it.
