Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There was the bonfire for everyone who thought Maryland in January was a little too cool for their taste, as well as the ~~moddable~~ warm food and drinks, and chairs and tables in the school colors of blue and gold. Some tables were also set a little further away from the crowds.

Because there were always people who preferred the fringes.

"I'm used to some wacky things happening back home, too. People can still be jerks there," Maddie pointed out.

"I have to ask, what kind of wacky? Because I'm from a crazy superhero place, and I think that gave me a leg up on a lot of people," Jessica said.

"A crazy superhero place, actually," Maddie said. "Ever hear of the Avengers, or Ms. Marvel, or anyone?" Striving for casual, probably failing....

"Avengers. That's Captain America and Iron Man and everyone, right?" Jessica asked. She was on the other side of this conversation months ago. "We have them on my world, but they're called the Ultimates. By the way, there are alternate universes where superhero teams are called different things. That's one thing you should know."

"Yeah, that's them... Wait, seriously?" She'd kind of thought she was done with all that.

"Sorry, I just assume that's public knowledge anyplace there's a Reed Richards," Jessica said. "You have a Reed Richards, right? Preferably a non-evil one?"

"Yeah. Sorry, I just... kind of thought I left all that stuff behind. You have an evil one?" Was it bad that made her feel slightly better about people thinking she was a potential supervillain?

"Oh, no, all that stuff is coming with you. At least it won't be too hard to adjust to," Jessica said, looking on the bright side.

"And yeah, Richards went completely wacko a while ago in my world. It was pretty much completely unpleasant in every way imaginable."

"I bet. People just need to stop doing that in general," Maddie decided. That went for her too.

"Truer words were never spoken, my friend," Jessica said. "Well, since you know your superheroes, I should probably warn you that Cap and Thor are teachers here. So, that's probably a little weird, too."

Considering the last she'd heard of Thor was that he was dead, that was really startling.

"What? How? Your universe?" Oh, god, please let it be Jessica's universe or Maddie was going to have a lot of explaining to do.

"I'm pretty sure it's not mine. But I'm not exactly on speaking terms with Captain America or Thor, so I can't really confirm that," Jessica said, and that was a bit of a lie. "As far as I can tell, nobody else here is from my world." Partially because most of the big names from her world were dead.

Well, no one had tracked her down and asked for more explanations than she'd given yesterday, so maybe Maddie was safe there. Not that she wasn't glad to have Thor around, mind you.

"I wonder if anyone else is here from mine," she said, not able to resist looking around a little.

Oh, Maddie.

"It's completely possible. I know that plenty of other weird things happen, and there are more than a few people from worlds like ours, so it's hard to rule anything out," Jessica said.

"More than a few?" Uh oh. "Like who?"

"You know, after the Avengers teachers, I pretty much know the teeny tiny Tony Stark and this guy Victor, and I realize that's about all I know," Jessica said. "I'm sure there are more, though."

"I'm sorry, I thought you just said 'teeny tiny Tony Stark.'"

Euphemism, right?

"He's a student without facial hair and no massive drinking problem yet," Jessica said. "It's weird."

"And here I thought this place would be more normal than my last school."

NOPE.

"No, this is pretty much going to be the craziest place you'll ever be," Jessica said. "Hopefully."
