Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There was the bonfire for everyone who thought Maryland in January was a little too cool for their taste, as well as the moddable warm food and drinks, and chairs and tables in the school colors of blue and gold. Some tables were also set a little further away from the crowds.

Because there were always people who preferred the fringes.

[OCD up! This is the FIRST post for general mingling. Please use this post first, if your browser can handle the comment load. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here and there's more room for mingling here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"I'm going to suggest bunk beds," Jessica said. "I'm pretty sure Old Lace gets to pick which bunk she gets."

"My roommate and I are taking the 'Maddie gets to pick her bed first' approach," Gert explained. "Old Lace prefers the floor anyway. She's from the future, so I'm not sure what what says about the eighty-seventh century's furniture choices."

"I guarantee there are bunk beds in the future," Jessica said. "And if there aren't, we have to change the future."

"I've never known anyone who was so passionate about bunk beds," Gert observed.

"Oh, I hate them. But I would defend the right of other people - and dinosaurs - to use them until my dying day. Very, very far in the future. Of advanced old age," Jessica said.

"Whereas I'm hoping some generation of parents eventually picks up on the fact that making kids climb stairs to get to their bed is nothing short of criminal," Gert replied. "Sorry."

"It's okay. I can forgive you this once," Jessica said. "But I'd like to point out that climbing a ladder to bed is more fun than it is work. That's why kids usually fight over who gets the top bunk."

"I thought that was so they wouldn't have to put up with the other person subjecting them to fallen bedsheets," Gert offered. "Among other torments you could inflict on someone sleeping a few feet below you."

"Fallen bedsheets mean more privacy. Just hang them up once they fall and nobody can see in. It's win-win," Jessica pointed out.

"Not a bad idea," Gert admitted. "Cheaper than a separate curtain." Unsurprisingly, a girl who'd lived with five teenagers for several months really valued privacy where she could get it. "Thanks."

"At least yours didn't involve flying across the country with a dinosaur," Gert pointed out. "I guarantee you've never been security-checked like I was security-checked."

"Was Old Lace in the cabin, or was there some sort of giant pet carrier involved?" Jessica asked because it had to be asked.

It was such a good question, in fact, that it required a coin to be flipped in order to answer it.

"Cabin," Gert replied. "We had a whole row of seats. In the back, so people wouldn't freak out and complain." She paused for emphasis, then informed Jessica, "People complained."

"If I had a mask and cape I could travel with a dragon or something and it would be perfectly normal," Gert groused. "Fifteen years old and no superhero identity, though, and one velociraptor gets me all these glares from everyone."

"I'm pretty sure if you had a mask, a cape, and a dragon, they wouldn't even let you on the plane," Jessica mused.

Gert was skeptical. "You don't think Captain America can bypass security with any dragons he wants?"

To be fair, he didn't wear a cape, so.

"Not really, since he wouldn't be going through regular airport security," Jessica countered. "SHIELD would just give him a lift in a fighter jet or something."
