Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There was the bonfire for everyone who thought Maryland in January was a little too cool for their taste, as well as the ~~moddable~~ warm food and drinks, and chairs and tables in the school colors of blue and gold. Some tables were also set a little further away from the crowds.

Because there were always people who preferred the fringes.

"Nope! The school decided I'm fine as an only child," Jessica said. "So I'm free to bother you as much as I want and you can stand."

"Somehow I think the 'you want' part's more important than you than the 'stand' part," Atton concluded. "But hey, I'm going to have to deal with it even if I go back to the dorms, so do your worst."

"I would never do my worst to you," Jessica said. "It would ruin a sweet roommateship if I annoyed you too much. I try to keep it at annoying you just enough."

"Or you could not annoy me at all," Atton offered. "Seems like an easier deal."

"It seems that way, but it isn't," Jessica said. "It's part of my nature. And, I like to think, part of my charm!"

"I think you're going to want to think about that one," Atton said, "Because so far, I'm not seeing the charm."

"It's been a whole semester and you haven't asked for a new room yet. I can only assume that's because of laziness and not minding having me around," Jessica said. "Which i'm taking as a win."

"No, see, you're the one who needs to move out," Atton said, "Or they'll just rotate me to someone else. Possibly even someone worse."

So there was your backhanded compliment, Jessica.

"You could try to escape the system and just squat in one of the empty rooms. Sure, that means you run the risk of two roommates next semester, but I bet it would work for a while," Jessica pointed out. She was so helpful. "And worst case, you could always come back, assuming I haven't gotten rid of your bed yet."

"No, see, I know you're planning something if I ever stay away for more than a day," Atton accused.

"Come on, do I really seem like the devious master planner type to you?" Jessica asked. "At least in terms of long-term planning?"

"Two days isn't long term planning," Atton said. "Unless you're really ill-prepared for life in general."

"And now I remember that you haven't really known me that long," Jessica said. "Two days can be forever in terms of planning."

"I don't know, I never try," Atton lied breezily.

"I bet you planned out that response days ago," Jessica said. "I'm onto your game, buddy."

"Oh, yeah, you caught me," Atton deadpanned.

"I knew it!" Jessica said triumphantly. "I mean, it does me no good, but I still knew it."

"You're a real genius, Jessica," Atton drawled. "Anyone ever tell you that?"
