Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There was the bonfire for everyone who thought Maryland in January was a little too cool for their taste, as well as the ~~moddable~~ warm food and drinks, and chairs and tables in the school colors of blue and gold. Some tables were also set a little further away from the crowds.

Because there were always people who preferred the fringes.

Excuse you, caves were awesome.

"I am certain you were," Loki assured her without any condescension in his tone. Okay, a little. "Mine brother decided it best that I learn amongst the peoples of Midgard."

He craned his head upward, looking for a familiar head of blonde hair.

Well, maybe if you were in one with a box of scraps.

"Your brother must not know how crappy our school systems are," Gert replied, undaunted by the 'Midgard' remark. "Wherever you come from must be pretty sucky if this is the better alternative."

Gert had such a cheerful disposition! Maybe she'd start a Happiness Club here in Fandom. Derek could sponsor!

"He teaches here," Loki chided. Well. One of him did.

Well then. "He made you go to the same school he teaches at?" Gert repeated, looking skeptical. "Typical grown-up. What, does he follow you around to make sure you're eating your vegetables, too?"

"No," Loki replied thoughtfully. "I rather think he has little interest in my diet."

"Well. At least there's that."

Still, though. She was highly suspicious of your brother, Loki. FYI.

"I'm Gert," she added, and set a hand on her dinosaur. "This is Old Lace."

"Loki of Asgard," he replied with a bow of his head. "And the magpie is Ikol."

Ikol ruffled his feathers in annoyance at them all.

"You're Loki?" Huh. "I've heard of you. You're little."

Sorry, Loki. But at least she wasn't judging you for being evil!

"I am the size I should be." Which was a way of saying he'd grow into his reputation.

Gert shook her head at herself. "I've heard of a guy with your name," she said. "Forget it."

"Yes, that is me." LONG STORY.

"This is more of this other-versions-of-people stuff?" she guessed ~~assuming that this would come up in her conversation with her big sibling~~. "Well, whatever. I don't care as long as you don't murder people now."

SENSIBLE.

"Just like me," Gert said dryly. "Up top."

Weirdest cause for a high-five ever.

Loki gave her a dubious look before granting the high-five request. "Were your parents truly members of the Pride?"

"Leading contributors to Los Angeles' evil scene since the 1980s if you don't count all the time travel," Gert confirmed. "Not so much anymore, though."

It was hard to be evil while also being dead, see.

Well, Loki might have a few things to say about that.

"Interesting." That was not something you wanted to hear from him. Ever.

Yeah, Gert was kind of getting that vibe.

"Yeah?"

"It is of no importance," he assured her with a smile. "You will find yourself quite at home here. I believe mine brother and the illustrious Captain America are to teach a class together this semester."

Gert snorted at that. "Captain America sent me to a school where I can be taught by Captain America," she said. "That surprising to you? I'm not surprised."

"He has yet to threaten me, so I find no issue with him." YET.

"...do a lot of people threaten you?" IT SEEMED LIKE THE OBVIOUS QUESTION.

"I am Loki," he said in case she hadn't heard the first time. "Son of Laufey, adopted by the All Father. Brother and occasional foe of the mighty thunderer, Thor?"

"So you get threatened a lot," Gert summed up. "Stupid question."

"You become accustomed to it."
