Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There was the bonfire for everyone who thought Maryland in January was a little too cool for their taste, as well as the moddable warm food and drinks, and chairs and tables in the school colors of blue and gold. Some tables were also set a little further away from the crowds.

Because there were always people who preferred the fringes.

Liara had gone back and forth on coming here for hours.

Eventually, she did show up, thick volume on the history of human space travel in hand. She sat down under a tree and read quietly.

And there was Yeul, some time later, wandering over to sit near Liara with a smile.

She didn't say anything since Liara was reading and Yeul didn't want to disturb her. It was nice just to sit in the company of someone she was friends with.

Liara was too absorbed in her book to notice for several long minutes. Only when she became aware of something crawling up her hand - a bug, as it conspired - did she glance up briefly and--

"Yeul!"

Beat. "...Hello."

"Hello," Yeul said, smiling. "Sorry for startling you. I saw you reading and did not want to disrupt that so I said nothing."

"It is all right," Liara said, rubbing the back of her neck. "I should have paid closer attention. How are you doing?"

"I am well. I enjoy watching the people today." Yeul was easily amused. "And yourself?"

"I am fine," Liara said. "I have been reading. I may be submitting an application to the library soon, so..."

"You are thinking of becoming a library aide?" she asked. "I can see you enjoying that."

All those books!

"So do I," Liara agreed. And the library was calming! "I could get a great deal more research done... as it turned out, science club involved more socializing than I had expected. The library is quieter."

"The books sometimes behave unusually," Yeul said, "but quieter, yes, I think the library would be over a club."

"And perhaps if I have more time there, I will be able to understand the portals to my home better," Liara added.

"There is always that possibility," she said agreeably. "The library is meant to have things from many places, is it not?"

"It is," Liara said, nodding. "It may contain tomes from my universe that I simply haven't found yet."
