Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

It was a new year, and with the new year came the new spring term, and Fandom High was all set to welcome its new students, along with those just returning from holiday trips home. It was a familiar setting for the latter bunch: there was the requisite bonfire, with tables and chairs scattered around it, as well as the buffet table with moldable warm food and drinks.

And of course, name tags and lists of Big and Little Siblings as well as roommates. Yep, the weather was okay for early January, and Fandom was all ready to celebrate the start of a new term.

[OCD up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Ahahahaha why did people have to keep asking that? Sigh.

Natalie pushed hair away from her eyes and considered the best thing to say. "Parts of it." That was nice and diplomatic, wasn't it?

"And parts of it weren't nice?" Sorry Natalie, Clint was inquisitive like that. "Do I need to beat anyone up for you?"

"No thank you, I did enough hurting on my own."

When in doubt, go for detached-sounding honesty.

"Good girl," Clint said, pausing for a moment. "I don't know if I should be encouraging that, but there you go. In that case, is there anything non-violent I can do to help?"
whenshewasnice: (Makes one hardened.)

"I broke someone's heart, you shouldn't be encouraging that."

She was going to grow up to be quite good at it all on her own, at least in the minds of a few people. From the way she said it, you could have thought she already was. But that would have been foolish.

She shrugged. "My parents promised to pay for a bow for me. You can help me shop for one."

Clint thought about pointing out that broken hearts usually went both ways, but he didn't want to make Natalie feel worse. "Absolutely. I'll make sure you get a really awesome one." And then she could shoot things to make herself feel better! It worked for Clint, at least.

Natalie's heart was definitely pretty broken. She just wasn't sure how much that differed from how it had been for a few years now, except by the pain being worse. It'd pass.

"Is that something to shop for online, or actually in person at a... bow store?"

Was that even a thing?

"Nah, as long as you've got a laptop you can bring by the gym sometime, we can do it online. I'll make sure you get a good one," Clint assured her.
whenshewasnice: (Considerable I guess.)

"Good." Natalie had a slight preference towards not having to deal with salespeople. Shocker. She nodded. "Okay, I'll bring my laptop. It's a deal."
