Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

It was a new year, and with the new year came the new spring term, and Fandom High was all set to welcome its new students, along with those just returning from holiday trips home. It was a familiar setting for the latter bunch: there was the requisite bonfire, with tables and chairs scattered around it, as well as the buffet table with ~~moldable~~ warm food and drinks.

And of course, name tags and lists of Big and Little Siblings as well as roommates. Yep, the weather was okay for early January, and Fandom was all ready to celebrate the start of a new term.

[OCD up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Josh blinked at the hoof before shaking it. "Of course you're my teaching buddy. Because that's how it works here. Hi."

"That it is! It was really weird when I first got here, too. I thought you all were hairless bears!"

"Close," Josh said. "We're more hairless apes, unless you talk to some of the right wing evangelical nutjobs, but I wouldn't subject you to that."

Though it would be funny...

Someone would have to take a picture of it. And possibly post it on the internet with the caption "where is your god now?"

"I thought you were called 'humans'?" Pinkie asked, confused. "Everypony corrects me on that all the time."

"Oh, we're humans but a really long time ago--" Josh cut himself off, deciding that lecturing a talking pony about evolution was probably not the most productive use of his time.

"Human works," he concluded.

Kind of really not. She'd listen enthusiastically, but she would not get it.

"Oh good. If I'd been calling you all by the wrong term, boy would my face be red!"

"Instead of pink," Josh pointed out with a tiny smile.

"Exactly! I don't look that good in red."

"Pretty sure that's not close to my area of expertise so...sure," Josh said. "I'll agree with you."

"Good plan!" Pinkie said. ". . . What is your area of expertise?"

"I worked for the last two presidents of the United States," Josh said. "So I'm pretty good at politics."

"Oh neat! I taught Model United Nations last semester, so I kinda know what those are."

"Presidents or politics?" Josh asked warily.

"Both! Equestria has a princess who's ruled for thousands of years, so we don't really do electiony things."

Josh blinked. "She's thousands of year old? How old are you?"

"Twenty four! Alicorns usually live longer than other ponies."

"What the hell is an alicorn?" Josh asked.

Man, humans didn't know anything about ponies, did they? "You know, part unicorn, part pegasus, part earth pony, they're all the ponies in one!"

Oh God, every eight year old girl in the world would want one.

"Oh, right!" he said. "Are they also pink?"

"Princess Cadance is," Pinkie said. "But Celestia's white and Luna is dark blue. Ponies come in all kiiiiiiiiiiiinds of colors."

"Like humans, though we're kind of variations on brown," Josh replied.

"I noticed that," Pinkie said. "Though I've seen some blue around, too!"

"Blue?! Blue is new to me," Josh said.

"Oh! Maybe she's a different kind of human, then."

"Maybe," Josh agreed, now looking around for someone blue.

What the hell, blue.
