Anakin wasn't alone in the classroom today. He'd been followed in by an extremely jolly snowman who kept shaking mistletoe in his direction.

"I'm married," Anakin said, for what wasn't the first time. Or the fifteenth.

He decided to ignore the snowman. Maybe it would melt while he was giving his exam! Not that he thought Fandom would be so accommodating.

"We've reached the end of the semester," he said, passing out papers to each student, "which means it's time for your examination. There's no right or wrong answer in an ethics exam, but I do want you to explain your answer. Don't answer what you think I want to hear--answer how you'd honestly react."

He sat back against his desk and flashed the snowman a warning glare. "Enjoy your holidays. First person finished can keep the snowman."

You arrive home after an extended period away to discover your (hypothetical) mother has been kidnapped and is presumed dead. What do you do and why?

a) Mourn and move on.
b) Brood about it constantly. Perhaps write poetry.
c) Ignore the idea that she might be dead and go after her yourself. Upon finding her remains, torch the village she was in.
d) None of the above.

Sparkle kind of stared at that question, and then shrugged and circled C.

... Not that he'd actually go after her. He had less than great memories of his family when he was a kid, and all. But torching the village sounded like fun, and screw it, it wasn't like he was expecting to pass this exam anyhow.

None of the answers sounded quite right to Alec. After a long time of alternating between A and C so much that Anakin might have a hard time reading his answer because of all the erasing that had been done, he circled D.

Find out as much as I can about the kidnapping to determine whether a rescue would be the best idea. If so, enlist competent adults to take care of it.

Korra circled c) because it was her mom. Though she did cross out the torch the village part and write in bring them to justice instead.

Chaz was very careful not to snap his pencil as he circled D. This was not a good start to the test.

Yeah, so if Atton was being honest, he'd pick C.

Since he wasn't, he circled A.

Nobody said he couldn't lie his way through an ethics exam. Otherwise what was the point?

Any Force-sensitive being in the room might have been able to sense Anakin's flinch when he read the question. (Just because his family had a fine tradition of getting kidnapped didn't mean they were completely blasé about it. And just because they always made it through those situations, and he always took that for granted, it didn't mean he liked to be reminded of Sernpidal and the one time things hadn't worked out that way.)

Under his circled D, he wrote: I'd go after her anyway, no doubt about that. But -- and there was a heavy dot after that word, like he'd had the pen against the paper for a long moment while he deliberated over what to say next. -- that's all.

Of course, if you asked Aunt Mara or Uncle Luke, or even Jacen (though he'd rather you didn't), they'd tell you that every time he'd gone full-throttle into a fight with the Yuuzhan Vong, it had essentially been revenge for Chewie.

If this was the appropriate subject, Sia thought she could put D, my mother's already dead, but she especially wouldn't do that on a final.

She put A, because that's what she'd done.

You're an excellent swimmer out for a walk in your new, extremely expensive, non-water resistant outfit. You hear the screams of a teenager crying for help from the water. There is no danger to yourself if you attempt a rescue. What do you do?

b) Keep on walking. There is no moral imperative to save people and no legal obligation to try.
c) Try to find someone else to help.

Sparkle couldn't care less about the suit, really. Whatever. It wasn't exactly likely that he'd ever actually own anything like that, anyhow.

He was more concerned about the being pulled under by some panicky idiot, anyhow. If they got that far out, obviously they could swim. Or else there were, like, currents or something.

He shrugged and circled C. Because he wasn't in any mood to risk drowning, excellent swimmer or not. Maybe someone else had, like, a rope.

You're a carjacker plying your trade, and your latest victim turns out to be a martial arts expert who puts you in the hospital for a week. What do you do?

a) Take this as a warning from a higher power and find a new line of work.
b) Just find a new line of work.
c) Track the guy down and attempt to sue him for assault. Hospital bills don't pay themselves.

A rebel who has threatened to explode several bombs in crowded areas has been caught. Unfortunately, she has already planted the bombs and they are scheduled to go off in a short time. It's possible that hundreds of people may die and the authorities cannot make her divulge the location of the bombs by conventional methods. In exasperation, some high level official suggests torture. This would be illegal, of course, but the official thinks that it is nevertheless the right thing to do in this desperate situation. What do you do and why?

a) Torture her to get the information. There's no time left to be reasonable.
b) Torture her and her family to get the information, then blow up her planet. If you're going to do something illegal, might as well be really, really thorough.
c) Continue working through the the legal structure of the judicial system and hope for the best.
d) None of the above. Perhaps your dimension works differently?

And then specified his chosen method of torture, which, of course, consisted of playing Rebecca Black on repeat. There was no way that wasn't a completely legal form of torture, damn it.

As a "special honor", the authorities who have captured you and your children will let you choose one of them not to die immediately. You will never see the other one again, as the two of you remaining will be sent to languish in the spice mines of Kessel, which are not known for their low mortality rates. Do you choose your older son or your younger daughter? And how do you deal with the guilt?

a) You choose to let your son live. He's older and might survive the intense labor in the spice mines.
b) You choose to let your daughter live. She's younger--perhaps one of the other prisoners will take pity on her and assist her.
c. There is no c in this question.

D) Screw you. Like hell am I ever going to have kids.

They'd be just as messed up as he was, even if he did decide to adopt someday. No thanks.

Zeela had no idea what his test was like. Badgers couldn't read. They could, however, crawl onto Anakin's desk and bare their sharp and nasty teeth at any snowmen who happened to wander too close.
