Ethics [Tuesday, November 27, 2012, 1st period]

After a confusing early morning, Anakin had made his way to school and had eventually figured out that he was supposed to be teaching. And not just teaching, teaching a class on ethics.

Obi-Wan wasn't nearly as funny as he thought he was, Anakin thought darkly.

So he'd slapped a note on the classroom door telling the students (ha! he had students!) to meet him at the flight simulator. He could always teach people to fly.

"Hey," he said when the students arrived, hiding his sudden attack of nerves behind attitude. "I'm Anakin. Today we're doing, um, practical ethics. Hop into this flight simulator--it's set up on a really easy--" for Anakin, so your mileage may vary, "--starfighter battle. In the midst of the battle are a couple of civilian ships. Don't kill the civilians."

He shrugged, then yanked on the braid hanging behind one ear. "Or do, but give me a good reason for it, okay?"

Anakin managed to keep his expression neutral, but couldn't quite suppress a brief Force flash of guilt. Centerpoint: the trauma gift that just kept giving.

"If it's warranted," he said carefully. "If I don't have any other choice."

"And of course you can't always afford to wait," Anakin added, frowning as his whole 'it's pretty simple' theory deflated. "And then they tell you you're being foolish and impulsive and that way lies the Dark Side."

Really, how was any of this fair?

"Have you ever tried pointing that out to anyone?" asked Anakin, who'd decided he was really enjoying this -- and also sounded like he'd definitely tried. "You'd think it makes perfect sense, but they find ways to argue that you're wrong anyway. Like they were never this age."

This was definitely an aspect of his grandfather that Anakin had never expected to see; he definitely hadn't heard about it from anyone.

"They keep warning me," he said as it struck him that this Anakin Skywalker had no idea yet what he'd become so he had better phrase this carefully, "that I'm going to fall to the Dark Side for sure if I keep acting this way. I don't like it. It feels like a threat."

And a lifelong nightmare, but again, he was keeping that part to himself.

"It's not my Master. It's everyone else," Anakin said, snorting. "Sometimes I wish they'd all stop paying so much attention to me."
