Drama! Thursday, Period Four

As the students filed in to the classroom, they'd probably notice the list posted on the doorway. And if they didn't, well.

"Greetings, class! As you may have noticed, I have selected the roles you will each play in our production. Please obtain a copy of the script," he gestured to the large pile stacked in the centre of the circle, "and begin to familiarize yourself with it. As I understand it, there will also need to be some 'sets' designed, and so I am taking volunteers for that! Mr. Starsmore at the Boards has ~~handwavily~~ agreed to open up his place of business for us to use should we need it, and so feel free to take advantage of his generosity!"

Grab your script and start running lines, volunteer to help with set design...

Excellent. No lines.

Alec was pretty pleased with himself, and spent a few minutes reading over the script to make absolutely sure he had nothing to do. Then the boredom set in, and he just sat and drummed his fingers on his knee. Maybe if Jace or Sparkle needed help with lines, he could go do that. Or just... sit here and be bored. Either one worked.

Juliet started flipping through the script and marking all of Mother's lines. It wasn't the funniest part, but the role had enough lines that she didn't feel like she'd done too badly. She approved.

Oh, fuck yes. Sparkle hadn't really been expecting to get the role he'd auditioned for. He'd done it half for laughs, after all. But, shit, if he was going to actually land it?

He pulled a cigarette from his pocket and stuck it in the corner of his mouth, unlit, while he ran his lines and pondered what kind of costumes he'd end up wearing. The Virgin Mary costume was a given. And otherwise...

Yes, he was giving entirely too much thought to maybe torn-up tights and a short skirt and a wig. So?

"Congratulations," Alec offered, swinging his arms loosely as he came over to Sparkle. "I mean, if that was who you wanted."

"I get to dress in drag and smoke cigars on stage," Sparkle laughed. "Shit, I was so not expecting to actually get Imogene when I auditioned for that role, but now that I've got it?"

He was grinning like an idiot, yes.

"I am going to be the most obnoxious Herdman chick ever, oh my god just you wait."

"If you need help running lines, I... don't have any of my own to memorize," Alec offered, grinning a little. "So I could help if you want. Probably not as much with the, uh, the drag."

"I am perfectly capable of handling my own drag," Sparkle announced, putting his nose up into the air. "But... I wouldn't mind help running my lines, since you're offering."

And yeah, at that, his nose came back down out of the air, and he shot Alec a smile.

"I guarantee you're more of an expert on it than I am," Alec promised wryly. "But for the lines, if you want to come by Wellspring one Friday, or my room, uh, whenever? I'm usually around."

"Both," Sparkle decided, grinning. "I'll drop in on you at work and in your room whenever you least expect it, and wave a script in your face and be completely obnoxious at you until you help me with my lines, and you'll like it."

Yes, he was teasing. Mostly. Probably.

"I guess it's only fair, since I managed to get myself a part with no lines," Alec conceded. "Do you have an individual monologue picked out yet?"

"I just figured I'd kind of make it up as I go," Sparkle admitted, shrugging his shoulders. "How hard can a monologue really be? I mean, I like to think I'm pretty good at talking, if I have something to talk about, right?"

Sparkle kind of did monologues as though they were a regular part of daily life.

Alec blinked.

"I... wasn't looking at it that way," he admitted. "I don't know. I can't think of anything to say. I thought people would just... look things up."

"Most probably will," Sparkle agreed, "yeah. But where's the fun in using someone else's words? I could help you write one, too, if you want?"

Because that could be amazing! And hilarious!

"Uh." That seemed kind of... difficult. "Sure. Yeah. In exchange for the whole running lines help. If you don't mind."

"Nooo problem. Just come up with something to monologue about and I'll deliver!"

... No promises it would be something that Alec could possibly feel comfortable reading onstage, mind.

...Oh god.

"I'll think about it," Alec promised. "Next time I see you, I'll let you know, okay?"

It would probably be something boring, like Velcro or the fourth floor common room couch.

If anyone could come up with a paragraph or two about a kitten that arrived in a red and white ball and who stuck to his cut-off t-shirt, it was probably Sparkle, at least.

"Sounds like a plan to me," he decided. "Make it a good one, okay?"

Billy was surprised to get the role he'd auditioned for and, well, at least he wouldn't have to do anything embarrassing with Sparkle. Probably.
