"Okay, today, we're going to practice digging fossils out of rock. Don't worry if you've never done it before- and I suspect that probably none of you have- we'll be doing this exercise at least once more, so I can see your progress. Everyone choose a rock and get to work!"
On the table at the front of the classroom are seven rocks of various sizes, plus hammers, chisels, and brushes.
"And don't forget to hand in your homework as you leave. No presentations today, because let's face it, the assignment was sort of boring."
[ooc: comment in the Discussion thread with whether you took a large, small, medium-sized, whatever, rock, and then whether you managed to free your fossil with no problems, or possibly chipped or broke it.]

Discussion/Assignment!
Re: Discussion/Assignment!
Eventually, she freed what she was pretty sure was a fossil, only chipping it very slightly on one edge.
Perfectionist.

"Oops."
Re: Discussion/Assignment!
"'Oops' is right," Tommy says, examining one half of the rock and pointing out the cross section (http://www.geo.ucalgary.ca/~macrae/t_origins/carbbones/dino_bone7.jpeg) of bone. "Do you want to try and get the halves out from the rock? It might be easier now that you can see exactly where the fossil is."

Whether her aim was on or not was entirely up to the chips.
Meanwhile, the fossil began to emerge.
Re: Discussion/Assignment!
And the player is totally pulling this out of her ass based on the fossil lab exhibit at the Field.Janet peered at Sharon's fossil. "What do you think you have there?"

Homework!
Re: Homework!
1. 150 pounds.
2. 120x5 = 600 pounds. 600 + 100 + 20 + 150 = 870
3. 4 x 870 = 3480
4. 150 + 200 + 20 + 20 = 390 + 400 = 790 + 3480 = 4270 - total truck capacity: 4200 pounds. The answer is no. The jackhammer stays. Capacity without jackhammer: 3870.
5. *stick figures*
6. 3870 - 2400 = 1470 + 100 = 1570. 4200 - 1570 = 2630 pounds of fossil can return with us.
Re: Homework!
2. (1 day of food for 1 person x 120 days) + baggage + tent + body weight = total weight of 1 person
(5 x 120) + 100 + 20 + 150
600 + 100 + 20 + 150
870 pounds = total weight of 1 person
3. total weight of 1 person x 4
870 pounds x 4
= 3480 pounds
4. Total weight of equipment = excavation tools + 4 filled gas cans + truck emergency kit + medical kit
Total weight of equipment = 150lbs + 200lbs + 20lbs + 20lbs
Total weight of equipment = 390lbs
Total weight = total weight of equipment + total weight of people
Total weight = 390lbs + 3480lbs
Total weight = 3870lbs
The jackhammer is too heavy to bring.
5. Cabin (http://pics.livejournal.com/kawalsky/pic/000069c8) & Roof rack (http://pics.livejournal.com/kawalsky/pic/00007xd9)
6.
Option 1
Returning with all personnel, baggage, tents, tools, kits, gas and 5 days worth of food.
Total Weight = Weight of personnel and gear + tools + kits + gas + food
Total weight = 3480 pounds + 150 pounds + 200 pounds + 20 pounds + 20 pounds + 100 pounds
Total Weight = 3970 pounds
Amount of fossils to bring home = max capacity of truck - total weight
= 4000 - 3970
= 100 pounds
Option 2
Returning with all personnel, baggage, tents, tools, kits and 5 days worth of food but only half of the gas (due to consumption)
Total Weight = 3480 pounds + 150 pounds + 20 pounds + 20 pounds + 100 pounds
Total Weight = 3770 pounds
Amount of fossils to bring home = max capacity of truck - total weight
= 4000 - 3770
= 230 pounds
OOC!
