Ethics [Tuesday, November 6, 2012]
Anakin watched a little sourly as a small blue donkey and an equally small red elephant tried to beat each other to death with campaign placards on his desk before class began.
"Politics," he in the same tone most people used for talking about sexually transmitted infections. "The country we are living in right now is electing their political leaders today: their president, members of their legislative body, and members of the local governments. Most people running have aligned themselves with two major political parties: a liberal one that believes in a strong centralized government that helps to take care of the population, and a conservative one that believes in distributing powers to the local moffs--" not what they're called here, Anakin, "--whenever possible and trusting that the local areas would know best how to help their populations. The nation is divided 50-50 in national polls and the arguments have become loud, screechy, and frequent in questioning the personal ethics of the person who holds the opposite opinion."
He began pacing. "My questions are these: do you believe it is possible to create a sustainable, ethical government? If so, is it through a democracy? Would it be easier to just chuck the entire thing and establish a benevolent dictatorship?"
Anakin, your Vader is showing...

Listen to the lecture!
Answer the discussion questions!
Sorry, Alderaan.
Or should we all start dictatorships instead?
Re: Answer the discussion questions!
It was sort of a thing that people did well, as a matter of fact.
"Democracies just mean that whoever gets put in charge is that much better at herding sheep. And what the hell is a benevolent dictatorship, anyway? Sounds like an oxymoron to me, like 'progressive conservative,' or 'negative growth.' You know it's got to mean something, but god, it's a loaded phrase."

But she was still kinda mortified by the whole coffee extortion thing over the weekend, so she was all but trying to hide under her desk instead.
