"Hiya, everypony!" Pinkie greeted as the students filed in, today seated behind a very large, very official looking desk with a microphone on it. She wore a pair of glasses with thick-black rims low on her nose, peering at everyone like an irritated librarian from a children's novel. On either side of the desk were two podiums, both also with microphones. "I thought we'd try something a little bit different, today. There've been these neat things on the television lately called 'debates', in which three people get in a big room behind desks and podiums and one of them asks questions and the other two YELL AT EACH OTHER! Doesn't that sound like fun?" Pinkie slammed her hoof on the desk for emphasis. It reverberated in a way wood probably shouldn't. "So I've partnered you all up! I'm going to ask pair a very important question, and then we can all get yelling!"

"The first question is maybe the most important," Pinkie said. "Which is better, pie, or cake?"

"Pie," stated the erstwhile tosser of cakes into brooks.

"How much wood would a woodchuck chuck?" Pinkie asked. "And how can we increase multinational woodchuck chucking efficiency?"

"It would chuck a bushel. More woodchucks could chuck more bushels. Clearly, we need to organize the woodchucks to end with more bushels."

"Why did the chicken cross the road? And how can we make that road safer for future chickens to cross?"

"If a train leaves Ponyville at 11:30 pm going 74 kilometers per hour, how can we make train schedules more accurate so that Granny Smith doesn't miss getting to go to Apploosa and visit her relatives?"

"The question is stupid, and doesn't deserve an answer. Now, with my remaining alloted time, I'd like to impress everyone with my juggling skills. Does anyone have any balls?"

"How do you plan to address the federal deficit and the approaching fiscal cliff? Be specific."

"I'm thinking we should find another course," Karla said wryly, looking at her partner. "To avoid the upcoming cliff entirely. I don't like rappelling."

"Does this umbrella hat make my hindquarters look big?"

"How do you think we can best address an interdimensional depression? Are balloons really going to be enough, or do we need streamers?"

"Streamers can't hurt," Hanna said, shrugging.

"I agree with my opponent's position," Petra said. "Yes to streamers."

"Why do debates involve so much yelling? How can a debater avoid losing his or her voice?"

"Volume equals winning!"

Since there's an odd number of students, Ryan won't be debating. Unless you want to debate her here!

Ryan was still pretty relaxed from fall break, but she was happy to debate whether or not fall break should be extended for another week.

It can be hard to think of that many silly questions at once, jeez.

Extra questions from the peanut gallery are also welcome in the debates. Also, Pinkie's pretty sure that interruptions are essential, so have at ye!
