Club Fair, Gym, Friday Afternoon

Jackson got to the gym early. He took his mission of establishing a sports team in Fandom pretty seriously, see. That involved making something of an effort, and showing up early to check out the competition (yes, he viewed the other clubs as competition, deal with it) was the least he could do.

He grabbed a copy of the club schedule for himself before he went to set up his table.

Victor roamed for a while and then sat down at a table, playing with his phone calendar as he tried to figure out his schedule for the semester. He could find a reason to join about half the clubs, but he knew that could be a little ... insane, might be the word.

Olive had a lull at her table and a small pile of rubber bands. So, naturally, she was going to just sit over here and shoot them inconspicuously at people.

And if one were to shoot over towards Victor, Olive would certainly look very, very innocent. Very.

For someone with a pile of rubber bands on her table, so. You know. Not that innocent.

Victor swatted at the sting of the first band, which hit his shoulder, and looked around until he spotted someone who looked so incredibly innocent she clearly had nothing whatsoever to do with it.

Except oops, she had a pile of rubber bands. So.

He felt around on the floor until he found the one that had hit him and shot it back towards her. Because apparently he was precisely that mature.

[OOC: So last night was date night & today I will be AFK at Renn Faire until the evening, but SP is a thing? As is handwaving.]

Olive took the rubber band squarely in the arm, and gave him an indignant look -- what had she ever done to deserve this? -- before immediately abandoning all pretenses of her innocence, snatching up another one from her table and firing it over at him.

[hdu have a social life! SP is always lovely and I felt like a tool for pinging him as soon as I realized you were afk for the night, so.]

Victor threw his hands up in mock hurt, then loped over to talk to her anyhow.

"You could put somebody's eye out, y'know," he said. "Very dangerous."

"But Vic-tor," Olive whined, stretching out his name and looking ever so pitifully at him. "How else am I supposed to annoy people from a distance? My voice only carries so far and I'm trapped here, entrusted with the vitally important task of telling people about pajamas. Your shoulder will heal, probably."

"Okay, so it's only a flesh wound," Victor confirmed, though he was going to let his shoulder on that side droop just a bit to suggest it might actually still hurt. (It did not.) "But it's the principle, Oliiiiiiiive."

He wondered, "How is wearing pajamas a club, anyhow?"

"It somehow is," Olive said, consulting her signup sheet. "I have a lot of takers for something I basically was trolling the school on, and now I'm going to have a standing date with a bunch of girls in their pajamas every week. Plus Toby and someone named Peeta who's apparently male but I'm not convinced. Did you sign up for anything?"

"If Tuesday wasn't my day at the shop I might crash that date," Victor told her. "Anyhow, I went with science and lacrosse. I thought about the achievers one too, but that felt like one thing too many. Probably all less likely to lead to pedicures than your thing."

"If you're feeling left out, I could always teach you the fine art of painting your nails, but honestly you don't seem like the type anyway," Olive said, tilting her head and smiling at him. "Lacrosse, really? I'm trying to picture it. You seem too nice."

"I go completely feral on the field," Victor said, and let that hang for just a minute before he smiled to show he was kidding. "Nah, it's not really my sport, but I figure playing something gives me incentive not to spend all my time hunched over my laptop. I wish it was soccer or baseball, but I'll take what they have."

"I kinda couldn't believe they didn't have any team sports here to begin with," Olive admitted. "Basketball's king at Ojai North, but we had a lacrosse team, too. I never went to any of the games, mostly because...well, most of the players were kind of jerks and I was friends with the mascot more than any players, and he didn't have to go to the lacrosse...matches?" She squinted. "Games? Scrimmages?"

"Matches," Victor decided, not that he knew any better than Olive did. "See, my old school was mostly about football and track. No lacrosse team, even. But lacrosse players being jerks" -- he squinted over at Jackson -- "I'm starting to think that might be universal."

"Are you going to start popping your collar?" Olive asked, glancing over at the lacrosse table. Did she know anything about Jackson? Nope. Mmm, stereotypes. "Call everyone 'bra'? Get yourself a trophy girlfriend?" She lifted a brow, smiling at him. "Or are we talking a different breed of jerk?"

About all Victor actually knew about Jackson was that he seemed inclined to be suspicious of Victor on the basis of his face. The rest, he was filling in with stereotypes.

He figured the guy deserved it.

"Acts like beer is the fifth food group?" he supplied. "We're thinking of the same breed. If I start acting like that, drag me off the lacrosse field by my hair."

"To be fair, that does sound nutritionally accurate to many groups of people in their teens to mid-twenties," Olive noted. "But okay. I'll make the sacrifice and actually attend your games just so that if I see any of these behaviors I can intervene. I'm sure your teammates would look upon me kindly for it."

"Unless me being an ass was winning games," Victor said dryly. "... and now I'm wondering who we're even going to play. Are there like other schools on islands near here?"

"I have no idea, but it doesn't seem exactly fair to unleash you guys on some school of people without powers when you have the strength thing and god only knows what your teammates are rocking," Olive pointed out. "You'd have to play, like, Vampire High. Though, then all your matches would also have to be at night. Unless they were like the vampires from Dusk, but I don't think anything that stupid can have any grain of truth in reality."

"I hope not," Victor said fervently. "The only real vampire I ever even heard about tried to eat people, shocker. Kind of not that into facing a whole team full of them."

He glanced back to the table. "I guess they have an idea."

"Kenzi told me that there's a vampire here," Olive said, making a face that expressed just how absurd she found that sentence. "He owns one of the bars and is apparently Nordic sex on legs. I've promised to go in and look at him, so hopefully he's not the type to prey on people here. You'd think he would have, by now, but still."

"I'm sure he's fine," Victor said, in much the same tone of voice Olive had used to describe his awesome pickle-and-peanut-butter cookies as 'interesting.' "But -- wow. Okay, everything you just said is ... about as weird to me as it is to you. So that's, uh, probably a first?"

Olive beamed at him. "All right, I finally found something that freaks us both out! Sexy vampires. What weird common ground to have. Though the 'sexy' part is quite subjective and doesn't sound like it much applies to me. The guy doesn't really sound like my type."

"I just think alive is a pretty key part of sexy," Victor said with a quick grin back, wondering if that was a mildly ironic opinion for him to have. "Plus, y'know. Not into guys."

"But yeah, as things in common go, this is a strange one."

"You know, I thought the 'alive' part was a huge thing for me," Olive mused. "And it still is. But this place is kind of making me think about that stuff. A heartbeat or...whatever is kind of less important if they have an awesome personality, I think."

And my, weren't those rubber bands fascinating? Olive had begun winding one around her fingers nervously, because she was crossing into philosophical territory that should probably be discussed with someone other than, you know, the robot she maybe liked a little.

"Not that this guy sounds like he does. But still."

Victor looked half-embarrassed, half amused at how intently Olive was studying those rubber bands. The subtext there was ... not so much subtext, no.

"I guess in theory I see your point," he said. "I mean, in theory somebody could fall in love with a brain in a jar, or a ghost, or ... all kinds of things." Like an android. "But I still have a hard time imagining it. Maybe this vampire guy would prove me wrong."
