The locker room corridor was largely the same today, with one exception: where the portal-generating panel had been for the first couple of classes there was a regular (for this room, anyway) door. The sign beside the door was different, too, if you were observant enough to have remembered any of the details from last week's.

If you hadn't . . . too bad. You'd have to figure it out on your own once you stepped through the doors into the test chamber.

"You came back again," GLaDOS said, in an almost bored voice, once everyone was assembled on the platform just inside the doors. "It's almost reliable of you . . . or maybe Pavlovian. Personally, I'd be more gratified if it's a successful conditioned response. What are the odds that you actually remembered anything from the last test, though? Don't answer that."

A few bars of 8-bit music that might be familiar to anyone who'd watched the American Olympics coverage a few weeks ago began to play, echoing off the walls of the chamber, until she cut the sound abruptly.

"While we continue focusing on cardiovascular fitness, I've decided to go ahead and graduate all of you to the dual portal device this week. This week's test will focus on the principle of conservation of momentum through portals, and how to apply that to the high jump. If words like 'conservation' and 'momentum' are too challenging for you, let me spell it out for you in crayon: speedy thing goes in, speedy thing goes out." Wait, high jump? Like, over those glowing strips of light on the other side of the chasm? Apparently. "Then, just to test your sprinting abilities, a simple long jump exercise. Good luck."

She didn't add you're going to need it, but it was implied. It was never sincere, but always implied.

"So...I heard you were a basketball this weekend." Stiles, no. Don't taunt the jerkface. Even if he is a jerkface. "How was that? Fun?"

See Jackson glare. Glare, Jackson, glare!

No, seriously. He wasn't about to dignify that with a verbal response.

"So it was fun then?" Stiles asked, trying to keep a straight face. "Did people play Horse with you?"

Oh come on Stiles, it was like you wanted to get shoved against lockers. Because that was very likely to happen soon.

"Stop talking to me, Stilinski."

That was so going to work.

"Aw, come on, Jackson," Stiles said, with a little bit of a pout. "I'm curious, I've never met anybody that's turned into sports equipment before."

"Well let's hope it strikes you next," Jackson said. "I'm sure you'd make a wonderful football."

And yes, he thought that would be even worse than a basketball. Lacrosse was the king of sports, and football was for losers.

"I'm sure my roommate would take good care of me should that happen," Stiles said. "I can actually make friends here and your bitchery is getting you nowhere. It's like bizarro Beacon Hills. Next thing you know I'm gonna get the girl."

Yeah, not happening.

Jackson didn't think so either, and it was written all over his face right now. "Keep on cultivating those delusions," he replied dryly. "I'm sure they keep you company at night."

"And I hope you enjoy your dreams of maybe one day being the lucky ball that gets to play in the NBA finals," Stiles said. "Who would you like to get groped by? LeBron James, right?"

Annnd there came the shove! Just a light one, really. Not causing a scene, and all that.

"You're really not as funny as you think."

"Hey, hey, hey! No need to get physical," Stiles chided, brushing imaginary dirt off himself. "Learn to take a joke."

"Learn to keep your mouth shut," Jackson retorted, still glaring. Because why not? He didn't really have a sense of humor about himself. "No one is interested in your idea of joking."

"Fine, Spalding, chill out," Stiles said, waving a hand dismissively. "I'll leave you to brood."

Jackson glowered some more for effect, then turned away, rubbing the back of his neck again.

Jesus, this was so not his week.
